Virgil Joins In [Posted on 2006-07-26]
In Devil May Cry 3 SPECIAL EDITION, you have the oppurtunity to play with another main character, Virgil, the "evil" twin brother of Dante. The previous installement of the Devil May Cry series offered 85% of all the content in this special edition. Simply put, if you have the previous Devil May Cry 3, it's probably not a very good idea to purchase this greatest hit edition, because it does not add enough to make the game so much more enjoyable. Yes, throwing in a special character was a pretty interesting twist, and those who are tired of the old hero will like battling it out with another character through the other view of the Good VS. Evil plotline, but because the mechanics of this new character are extremely similar, most will grow bored of this semi-dante copy quickly.

Other little features in this game such as the few new items for Dante and the unlockable videos, pictures and such aren't too important. So if one would like to experience something new in this edition of Devil May Cry 3, they're out of luck. However, if you do not own the original Devil May Cry 3, this is definetly the version for you. The price is almost the same, and you'll be getting a bit more, anyway. Regardless, the gameplay, sound, graphics, story, and value of the game hasn't changed. It's still boasts great visuals, intruiging plotline, and the fun, fast gameplay the previous game offered.

Bottomline.

Graphics: Capcom has always worked hard to make their games look magnificent, and this is no exception.

Gameplay: As said, fast, action packed, just really fun stuff here. Alot of veriety.

Sound: Sountrack is hardcore, and fits the game perfectly. However, it is slightly repetitive. The voice overs are great too, as always.

Story: You'll be interesting in this game because of its great plotline. While it is slightly cliche with its "battle of demons" type theme, its quite entertaining none the less.

Lasting Appeal: If you played and completed the previous game, this will only keep you occupied for another 10 or so hours, just to see how it's like with the new playable character. But because it's all so similar, you'll stash it away somewhere quite quickly. Newcomers will love this game, however.

8/10

Not That Great [Posted on 2006-07-31]
This game is highly overrated. There were some fun moments, but other games in this genre are superior. In addition, the game is hard to the point where it's not enjoyable, especially with cheap bosses and lack of precise & timely reactive control to beat them.

Graphics - They are ok and the level design is actually pretty impressive. However, compared to God of War and Ninja Gaiden Black, it falls short. Cut scenes are acceptable, but dated- especially comparing to PS2-only titles like God of War and Metal Gear Solid 3. The voice-acting is exceptionally difficult to listen through.

Sound - Sound effects are good, but cheesy heavy metal score is 1980s corny. Again, God of War stomps on DMC3 in this area.

Gameplay -This is where the game is the most dissappointing. Although God of War was easy, there were reasons for that - one of which were controls that were tight. Let's not even bring Ninja Gaiden Black into the equation. NGB was super hard as well, but the controls were extremely tight. I recently played NGB again to make sure I was comparing fairly to DMC3 and I validated the fact that DMC3 is stupid-hard because the controls are not tight enough. NGB steps on DMC3 in this area. Simple examples of where DMC3 falls short is not being able to roll out of the way-forward or back, but only side to side. This has a huge negative impact later in the game when you are trying to get of the way of cheap bosses. Instead of rolling out of the way you jump up right in the way of one of their huge cheap life-stealing strikes. Another dissapointing issue is there is no blocking functionality, again just plain cheap. Ironically, the non-boss characters are over-the-top easy in DMC3. There is no real balance to the game.

Overall: I recommed renting the game, it is at least worth that, but I wouldn't recommend purchasing it unless you had a lot of time on you hand to get over the steep learning curve to beat bosses later in the game and also the patience to deal with the lack of control that has a negative impact later in the game.

A little bit fun but boring for a while [Posted on 2006-09-07]
Just like the title says, the game is a little bit fun but boring after a while. The cut scenes and character movements are gorgeous but it gets boring after awhile. If you don't have the walkthrough, this game is really difficult to beat. Character optimization page is a little bit confusing too.

good solid action [Posted on 2006-11-10]
The boss fights in the game are really good. Destroying the ice around Cerberus is a lot of fun, along with the strategy of attacking his legs. Attacking his head is also, really awesome. Killing the bats around Nevan is also fun. You see, there's a lot of little fun things like this that make the game so great.

Some of the objectives are extremely hard, such as the ones where you have to destroy everything inside a room within a certain time limit.

The puzzles are pretty fun too. Pick the game up.

pretty good game, but i have a few issues with it. [Posted on 2007-01-31]
if you're typically into this kind of game, then DMC 3 is probably a safe bet for you. as for me, i'm more on the fence. i usually like FPS games, but i enjoyed spartan: total warrior a lot. i thought god of war was rather disappointing.

luckily this game is better than god of war. however, it makes some mistakes. first of all, an action game should be all about action, right? don't get me all in a sweat fighting monsters just to make me press start and scroll through menus to take a freaking life thingy so i don't die!!! make it faster, dammit. for that matter, what's with buying life thingys in the first place? why not only be able to buy better moves & guns? (that part is cool) and make the difficulty easier so you don't need extra health? why place more obstacles in the way of action?

also when you die, the screen loading takes too long and you don't get to start again right away. i want to play a game, not wade through cut-scenes i already watched.

now my issues with the action.. the picture is too small and by that i mean, it's too easy for dante and the enemy(ies) to not be shown in the same damn screen!! sometimes i'm shooting at enemies i can't even see! what's up with that? it would be so much better if you could see what you're doing at all times. also all the different moves kind of get on my nerves. i don't like having to memorize a lot of moves, not to mention, even when you learn them, they don't always work! you might have to try a move 3 times and it works the third time.

i've never played ninja gaiden, but it seems quiet similar and if it's better than this, i'd like to try it. this game is pretty good but it's not capturing my interest for very long.
