Wow! [Posted on 2000-05-27] I just got the version of this modem that uses a serial cable connection. It is fast! The "shotgun" technology allows for much faster connections than my standard 56K modem ever did. It's pretty neat. I would reccomend this modem to everyone.
Great performer! [Posted on 2000-10-09] While I don't have the USB version, I can attest to the goodness of the serial version. MUCH more reliable and swift than the INTERNAL 56K modem I replaced. Initial connections are quick and reliable, as are subsequent net-surfing sessions. And it INCLUDES the serial cable (hard-wired), unlike the popular U.S. Robotics external modem I almost bought for much more money (this seems INEXCUSABLY greedy and smug on the part of U.S. Robotics, considering how much more their modem costs!). A great performer and a great value. Its comparative compactness on the desktop does not diminish its power.
Need a modem? Look no further! [Posted on 2001-01-24] Oh, my goodness!! On a Windows 98 (or newer) PC, I can tell you that set up was a snap. My machine knew it was there and installed the drivers without a hiccup. But the Speed is what's amazing. I had a v.90 compliant 56k internal modem and I was lucky if it would connect at 28k bps. This new external USB modem NEVER connects slower than 40!! Oh, and for us old-school computer users, NOTHING beats real blinkenlights! Just watch the flickering send and receive lights while the info comes rolling in. Easy of install: 5 stars Windows Compatibility: 5 stars Product performance: 5 stars
rare item...hardware-based USB modem [Posted on 2002-05-14] I bought one for my peer, I found it's HARDWARE-BASED (since it's mac-compatible too), he's using WinME, just plugin, and working right out of box, no install driver, no anything, and no performance loss too, and no power required (draw power from USB) get one when supplies last, but aware of SupraMax, it's soft modem!
Does not work properly on Windows XP [Posted on 2003-03-25] This modem has all sorts of incompatibility issues with Windows XP over the USB connection. Mine never powers on when I start my computer, I have to yank out the usb cord and plug it back in each time. Bad driver support as well. The rest of these reviews are very misleading and make me wonder if they were written by people who work for the company. After all the modem has been discontinued
