Slide Scanning [Posted on 2008-10-12] I think this scanner is a wonderful product for 35mm slides or for negatives.
However, I have slides I wanted to convert that date back to the 1950's and the adaptors they have don't work for these.
The software is very user friendly and would work quite easily with the scanner.
Great Product - Easy Installation [Posted on 2008-10-13] I am not sure why people are having problems with this product. For me, installation was simple. User software was intuitive. Some people complain about the short manual -- I did not even need to look at the manual since this thing is so simple to use. It is literally: insert film or slide, point, and click. It could not get any easier than that.
Some people are complaining about output quality. Look, anytime you take a tiny slide and blow it up to modern hi-def proportions, the limitations of an old 20th Century slide are going to be magnified. It seems to me that people are complaining becuase the included software does not turn old photos into modern hi-def pictures. That is an unfair standard from which to judge this product.
I was able to convert all of my old slides into digital photos that will last forever over a single weekend. Such a project would have taken months using a conventional scanner. Fantastic!! Two enthusiastic thumbs up!
Not Vista certified [Posted on 2008-10-15] This scanner is not Vista Certified per the manufacturer VuPoint Solutions. It also requires Windows XP, 1GB RAM and USB 2.0 for it to work properly. Vendors do not tell you this.
On my system Vista Home Premium with 3GB RAM and USB 2.0. It would lockup the software and then I would need to uninstall the drivers, and the hardware and reinstall in order for it to work and then only for a short time.
The manufacturer tells me that I need Model # FS-C1-VP-BX2. This is the Windows Vista certified model. I am waiting for them to tell me who sells this model.
Doesn't work with IBM laptops [Posted on 2008-10-16] I was quite excited about using this product, and I read very good reviews elsewhere (should have checked AMAZON first!). I loaded the software, despite getting an error, calling the company, and being told to proceed anyway.
When I tried to scan, the device was not recognized. I called the manufacturer back and the representative asked me if I was using an IBM computer and if I was using a laptop. She said due to a power issue, this scanner would not work with IBM computers and they've not been able to find a fix. She advised me to use it with a desktop computer or return it and find another scanner. Anyone know one that works with an IBM T43 laptop?
You Get What You Pay For [Posted on 2008-10-28] I recently bought this film and slide scanner to scan my grandfather's slide collection. It bleaches out the image with too much light. I tried changing the settings to improve the image quality, but had no luck. The company ArcSoft charges $10.00 per phone call for tech support. You are better off making the investment on a nicer quality scanner.
