Dell has gone to *ell [Posted on 2006-10-26] Dude, don't buy a Dell. I bought Dell's years ago and they purred along for years. When I upgraded the computers in my office this time, I bought Dells - against the advice of my computer consultant.
When they came, they didn't work. I bought the deluxe service package - the one where they come on site if they need to. Here's how that works:
1. If you call, 3 of 4 times you're on hold for 15 minutes, then there is a click and you're disconnected. 45 minutes on hold, then someone picks up the receiver and hangs up on you. If you call 40 times this will happen 30 of the 40.
2. Once you get them, they will say it's a software problem and it's not their responsibility - call Microsoft. If you call Microsoft, they tell you that, since you bought it from Dell, they are the reseller, and you need to deal with them on all operating system issues.
3. You call back to Dell, and they try to sell you more support and refuse to address the issue (after hanging up on you three times first).
4. I finally called Geeks on Call - they looked at the machines - said it was a 'bad build' and that it was a Dell problem. I paid another $500 to them to get the machines running.
5. I asked Dell for the money back for the service contract - they refuse.
Never buy a Dell... [Posted on 2006-10-30] I purchased a brand new Dell from the manufacturer. Boy, was that a mistake! It worked great for a couple of months, then it started to reboot by itself over and over and over and over... It would take sometimes up to 1 hour of rebooting before it would come up. So we thought, we had a virus and fried the hard drive. When it came time to reinstall windows, we found out Dell sent the wrong disk. After about 30 minutes on hold with "John" who had an Indian accent, we got Dell to mail out the right disk. A couple of days later, we got it, only to find out that it didn't have all the drives necessary to go on the internet or run certain important Windows software. So we had to download them from the internet (good thing we had another computer to do that with). Everything was great for... oh for about 1 week, when it started up again... we could not turn off the computer without it rebooting itself again and again and again and again......... We called Dell, "Martha" who .. surprise! had an Indian accent couldn't help. Shocking, I know! This brand and their customer service is the most useless, worthless I've ever seen. Stay away from Dell no matter what. Oh yeah... the problem was never fixed.

DELL DIMENSION 2400 slow as [Posted on 2007-03-06] I brought one of these 3 years ago. After installing sp2 this computer was slower than the Windows 95, pentium 100 I used to have( I know Windows xp is more powerfull than Windows 95,I am using this example to show the speed in releation to something else). I had a computer with like this one, 256 MB of 333MHz SD DDR RAM, 40GB hard drive and a better Intel(R) Celeron(R) 2.4Ghz cpu with 128K L2 Cache. This computer crashes a lot and you would always have your hands on the keys Ctrl-Alt-Del.The reason for this as I read is because of the low quality cpu in this model named Intel(r) Celeron(r) Northwood(r). This cpu only has a very limited anount of cache giving you very bad perfomance. You are likely to get better perfomance from a Pentium 3 in some cases. Also this computer has a intregated 64MB standard graphics card with no AGP slot, so you cannot upgrade to a dedicated graphics card. Even if you upgrade this computer with 1GB of RAM this will not work well with Windows Vista that well. Also a lack of a AGP port will disable you from Windows AERO ui. This is a very poor perfomance computer especially in 2007. I would recomend paying a bit more for a celeron d cpu or go with the craze of dual core machines. Intel(R) Pentium(R) D is really cheap and you get very good performance from it- I am using one now. If you are buying this I would recomend that you expand your RAM to 1GB.
This model sucks [Posted on 2007-07-24] Recent years people have been saying DELL computers, desktop and laptop, deteriorated dramatically in quality and service is bad too. I don't know other models but this one sucks. I bought Dimension 2400 with 2.66 GHZ CPU, 40GB drive and 128 MB RAM with XP Pro. I did not see it too slow. The two USB port on front are located at bottom and it's awkward to use them even you put it on desk. When I tried to upgrade it problems happened. There are only limited connection port on the back. There are not many slots available for ungrading cards or RAMs. The total Max RAM can only reach 1 GB. There is only one Hard Drive bracket in the case. This scuks to the maximum. Only DELL parts can fit in and it took customer a lot of time to find out the part number. DELL ask $25-40 plus shipping for that damn metal bracket. A lot of people used a piece of metal from Home Depot to build their own bracket and installed a second drive.
