Excellent Value for the Money [Posted on 2005-03-06] Excellent Value. Recieved this product last week, and have used it daily since then. This will copy any form of CD, except Karaoke CD's, and any speed / size of CD-R/W (including those cool business card cd's - great for advertising). Copy time averages about 4 minutes if you use 40x cd-r dics. If not, the machine will automatically speed down to match the speed of your disc. I have burned copies onto 4x cd-rw's with no problem. Machine is fairly silent, other than the noice of the cd-rom drives themself. Connection to a Windows 98, 2000, ME, or XP computer by USB 2 is a breeze.
Operation: The operation is simple. You must wait 20 seconds for the machine to beep before you copy a disc. There are three buttons: Mode, Speed, and Run. Mode is used in the combinations listed below. Speed is the setting that they call "secure mode". From the literature I determined this to mean auto-sensing mode. Run starts a copy at full speed. Holding Run for 5 seconds enables "External Mode" in which you can connect to a computer by USB 2 and burn or read CD's.
Mode Combinations:
Mode + Speed: Erase CD-RW
Mode + Run: Flash Firmware
The only reason I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars is the button configuration, and the fact that you can't use both cd-rom drives via the USB connection. The buttons are labled strangly. Why not just call them Auto or Full Speed, instead of Speed and Run. Pressing combinations of Mode + Speed can be a little tricky if you have large hands like I do. I have a hard time using 2 fingers on the same hand to press the buttons. Other than that this machine is a great value for the price.
Note*** It is reconditioned, so condition may vary. Mine had a small chunk out of the front faceplate, but nothing major. Its not a piece of art, its a cd copier.
WORKED FOR 3 MONTHS [Posted on 2005-07-27] I bought this item for my mother. She copied about 40 CDs over a 3 month period when it stopped working(right at the 3 month warranty period cutoff). She took it to a repair shop who said the microchip went out and would cost $50 to repair (more than 1/2 of what it cost to purchase it 3 months earlier). I contacted Amazon who said they would normally replace it, but couldn't because they couldn't get anymore from the manufacturer. Amazon took it back and refunded most of my money (less a $18.98 restocking fee). I'm kind of miffed about that, but I guess it's better than nothing. If it had worked, it would have been a great deal. All other duplicators that I've priced cost at least 3 times as much. I'm sure this one could have been a fluke and others work great, but I think this item needs a longer warranty period from either the manufacturer or Amazon for just this reason.
