Great for Practicing Spelling Words [Posted on 2008-08-30] I have 2 boys (8 & 11). This is a great tool for practicing their weekly spelling words. They can write as big as they want and even do them in the dark. I just use a damp washrag to wipe the words off. The little sponge was lost almost immediately; however, we have managed to keep the 3 pens for 1 1/2 years now. This is a record since my boys have a tendency to lose everything. The pens fit on the back or into the drawer inside the unit. As far as tracing and drawing, my boys don't do either. But as a teaching aid this product is invaluable.
There is still a way to get some use! [Posted on 2008-10-11] My daughter received as a present at 3 years old. It was frustrating to have to scrub the screen constantly and dry it and then of course the markers that stain.
So I took away the markers.
I gave her a bottle of cheap lotion and a paint brush and also let her finger paint with the lotion.
She would use a damp wash cloth to wipe it down herself and start all over.
Although not exactly colorful, it still was entertaining enough for her. The lotion had almost a black light effect and would glow enough to keep her entertained for awhile, at least not as seriously messy as finger- painting or any paint for that matter.
So, the product and how you are supposed to use it, is poorly made and cheap for it's overpriced tag.
Would have been a great toy and it is a great idea, but as is now- disappointing.
very messy [Posted on 2008-11-30] This was quite messy to clean the screen--you just don't wipe clean. You had to get the sponge wet and then the screen was streaky so then you had to wipe clean with paper towels. Not very easy for a 3 year old. We didn't keep this toy long. Didn't know what I was going to do once the markers dried up.
Use dry erase markers! [Posted on 2008-12-04] My daughter has had the Doodle Pro Glow for two years. When I started searching for new markers, it was extremely frustrating. You can only buy them in packs with templates. Since the markers make a mess and the sponge was lost long ago, we now use "Foohy brand washable thinline dry erase markers." I got them at WalMart. They are bright colors and the glow works great. Plus, no water and they are washable off hands and clothing. Hope this helps some of you looking for new markers.
Kids LOVE this thing [Posted on 2008-12-27] LOVE IT...Great Toy...had 8 kids (ages 26 mos to 7yrs) playing with it on Christmas day...Was the most played with toy...easy to clean w/ damp cloth or baby wipe...they loved it...I even played w/ it for a little while myself...Made just like a mini restaurant light board...scratches are barely noticeable and don't affect the use or quality of the toy...light shuts off automatically when left on... I don't use the sponge and the markers have been working great, even after being abused by 8 little kids....haven't used the tracing pages yet, not really needed.
