Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 Preferred Upgrade [OLD VERSION] | List Price: $161.36

| Platform: Windows XP, Windows 2000 Brand: Nuance Communications Binding: CD-ROM
Features: So far so good [Posted on 2007-09-25] I am using the program listed above to write this review. Dragon naturally speaking, version 9 is by far the most impressive voice recognition program I have ever used. Be warned that you will need to train your voice to adapt to the program, and it will take some time. But there is no other program out there, that can beat this product. The price listed here is the big savings. I paid $200 for the program from Best Buy. So Amazon does have really good deals. You can use this program for MSN messenger, or even AOL messenger. The manufacturer does have a great telephone support program where you do get one free incident. They were actually able solve my problem as well. I just wish I could take this program to work with me, because it would make my job a lot easier. If you would like to impress your friends, I am pretty sure this will blow their mind. It's really cool that you can type as fast as you can speak now. It does make some mistakes, but you can correct them. Once you really use the program and train your voice, you will feel very impressed. The only reason that I am not giving this program five stars is because support is not always free.
The Best As Yet [Posted on 2008-01-02] The Version 9 and 9.5 are excellent and the best so far of any out of box dictation programs. The accuracy has significantly improved from previous versions(I have every version)and the digital recording and later transcribing it also have come of age. My only grip, its Bluetooth compatibility does not give good accuracy. I bought Jaw-Bone Bluetooth headset which is rated the best and it blocks all ambient noise and was hoping the best response, but was disappointed. Having said that with Plantronics C50 wireless microphone it works flawlessly, you feel like you want to dictate more and see it appear on the screen!!
A big improvement for Dragon NaturallySpeaking [Posted on 2008-03-10] I have owned all of the previous versions of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, but usually stopped using them when I would get frustrated because it would take longer to correct the errors then to type the document in the first place. I was pleasantly surprised however with this current version of Dragon NaturallySpeaking and have used it almost nonstop since getting it. Definitely an upgrade worth getting.
got questions? pay $10 for each and every call for assistance! [Posted on 2008-03-31] I will definitely NOT buy this product. I refuse to be RIPPED OFF $10 for EACH AND EVERY time you e-maill or call customer service. This is totally ludicrous, and the support service should be included with the purchase of the product. Apparent Nuance Dragon Naturally Speaking is trying to squeeze every nickle and dime out of their customers. I refuse to by any product by a company that will do that to their customers. I think this is about the ONLY company that charges for their support. Try to find an alternative voice recognition software company who will support their product free of charge. SHAME ON YOU, NUANCE DRAGON NATURALLY SPEAKING.
You speak, it types, period. [Posted on 2008-08-26] The product is by no means perfect, and the customer service is just aweful. BUT the product works. You speak and it writes for you. I am a lawyer and I have to write plenty everyday. This product has truly made my life easier. I wish it was better. It's not 100% accurate, but it still takes time off my hands. I've tried others, like the mac version, and this one is superior.
But be warned, if you have any issues with the installation or learning how to use it, you will have to figure it out by yourself. I'm not much of a computer connausseur but fortunately someone close is. It turns out I had to change my sound card. Had I not someone computer savvy close by I would have never made it work.
All in all, I would buy it again. I just haven't found anything better out there. So in comparison to what's out there it's a 5, but the fact that the costumer service is practically non existent is what makes me give them this rating. I can understand not having perfected the product. But if you're charging people for it, then you should give support, and great support at that.
