Great deal [Posted on 2008-04-14] I got this card because I came to the conclusion that it's the best entry card out there and a good bang for the buck. It's powerful enough to play pretty much everything on its own, it supports DirectX10, but it's also not so crazily priced as some of the new ones that have come out. I've been using it with Oblivion, X3: Reunion, Overlord and C&C3 and the performance on all of those is excellent. Also it's SLI compliant, so if you have an SLI motherboard, down the road when the games suck up even more juice and it's not cutting the cheese you can plug another one in. By that time the price should be a lot cheaper so adding a new one won't be a big deal.
BEWARE [Posted on 2008-04-15] ------BEWARE-------
This is a very very good graphics card for a very reasonable price! However you cannot just buy this card and expect it to work when you plug it into your computer. Firstly it requires lots of power - most standard computers come with a 250W power supply, this needs at least 400W. Secondly this card is VERY LONG - NB not all graphics cards are the same length! Make sure you have enough room to fit this card into your computer! Lastly, not all motherboards will work with this card!!! (I had no idea this was even possible as there is no mention on amazon about this).
All three of these things affected me. I knew about the power supply and length. I live in the UK and imported this card for about $400. In order to get it to work I have had to spend another $450 making it work in my computer (needing new power supply, new motherboard and new case as the boards for this card tend to be rather large). I can't really complain though as now I have a pretty uber machine (good job the 9600GT is out now and cheaper than this one)
Hope this review stops someone making the same mistakes as I have!
Excellent Purchase [Posted on 2008-04-16] Even though at the time i bought this card it was a Little bit overpriced, it was worth every penny. You have to take in to consideration the fact that this particular card runs very hot (70°-90° without proper cooling), and the factory settings will not modulate the fan right even with the latest drivers. It plays all the games with very high settings, but it has its exception's like Crysis, World in Conflict, etc.
Finally vie had it for almost 5 months now and I enjoy it very much. For all of yo looking for a good card at an incredible price this is a safe bet. I've had no issues so far.
Some things about the card:
Its big, make sure you have appropriate space
When fan is after 80% it's noisy
It's hot, I know I've said it but trust me it is
It gets Vista 5.9 (obviously) Rating.
Buy it if you have the doubt.
What an Upgrade! [Posted on 2008-04-22] Wow, simply wow. This card may be a step down from it's younger but pricier brother, however it is an excellent jump from my stock 6100. Anyone who is looking for a good card but doesn't have the extra $250+ to spend on the 8800 GTS or GTX, they should get this card.
Just make sure your power source is 400 watts or greater or you might have some problems. ^^;
Great card [Posted on 2008-05-05] I had an 8800 Ultra on my other machine and I feel almost none difference between that and this one.... awsome card...
