OK horror game, not that great.... [Posted on 2005-12-16] Extermination is a game that lets you kill monsters and play as US special forces. You play as Dennis, a man apart of a special forces team that comes to discover a underground base of some sort. The base is inhabited by horrorful creatures and monsters that you will have to face...
The game is pretty fun, its something to play if you are tired of playing games like Resident evil or silent hill. It offers pretty interesting puzzles and a pretty cool weapon. Yet, like every great game, it has its pros and cons...
Pros: 1. The controls are great and it is easy to move around.
2. Cutscenes are cool and the voice acting is very well done (meaning their lips actually move to the words they say)
3. Even though you have one gun which is one con, you find different attachments to put on you machine gun. (Ex. shotgun, flamethrower, knife, grenade launcher)
4. The enemies are cool looking and detailed
5. The key items and puzzle items are easy to located as long as you know what your doing...
6. The ENDING is fantastic!!
Cons: 1. Sometimes the number of enemies in each room can bad, they can gang up on you and kill your guy which wiill PISS you off.
2. when trying to aim the gun, the aim can sometimes be clunky and hard to find a enemy to shoot.
3. The game has only a FEW invisible walls.
4. Even though getting attachments is a pro, it sucks that you have only the machine gun as you main weapon...
5. have i already told you that the enemies can piss you off? LOL oh yeah i forget...
Overall, the game is a good choice if you are getting bored of playing other horror games like RE or silent hill. Yet, if you had to choose between RE or this game, i recommend getting RE first then getting this later in time...
Disgusting, Evil, Gory, Pathetic, STUPID! Sorry. [Posted on 2005-12-21] I can't believe they made this. I HATE THIS GAME!!!!!!!! I can't say it enough times. Compared to this, Area 51 looks like a peaceful, kind, caring game. This game made me completely SICK! Area 51 did that too, but that's beside the point. In this game, you go to a completely disgusting arctic laboratory to find and kill mutant viruses. If you fail, you will get infested, fall to the ground, scream, AND BECOME A VIRUS! Why would ANYONE want to buy this game!? PLEEEEEAAAAASSSSSEEEEE take my advice, and stick to sports games...or at least games that aren't, well...this. I have only tried this game on a demo, but that was enough for me! I tried to hide the game so my brother wouldn't play it and FREAK ME OOOUUUTTT!!! I'm sorry this review isn't nice, but I just can't like something like this. Sorry. I hope no one buys this game for their own good. And if you'll excuse me, I've got to go AND DESTROY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely, RedHawk48 GO DESPERADOS! GO COWBOYS! GO WHITE SOX!
Does Cindy know about Sonia?? [Posted on 2007-06-21] Yep I gave this game 5 stars, because I absolutely loved playing it. The story is the same old virus/mutation saga, but nonetheless it is intriguing, well developed and the never gets in the way of the game. You are a USMC in an elite group sent to find out what's happened at a remote Antartic research station. From the get go there are problems as your plane inbound takes a hit and you find yourself divorced from the rest of the team.
Once you gain entry into the research station, the game begins to develop its rythymn...slow at first and then look out, a veritable monster feast for you or them depending on your reflexes.
One of the aspects of the story that I enjoyed the most was the interplay with the main character and a woman named Cindy, who appears early on in the game offering cryptic assistance as you discover what a world of hurt awaits in the research station. One of the other great things about this game (for me) is that there are no arcane puzzles to solve, just find the things you need and you are off and running. Save terminals, weapon ammo, and healing stations are well placed and allow you to keep going without endlessly repeating the same tired scripts.
I owned Cold Fear prior to playing this game and I have to say that I would much rather play Extermination than Cold Fear. Cold Fear is a great game, but lacks the depth of environments, monsters, and story line that Extermination contains.
From start to finish I found the game appealing, appropriately difficult, and easy enough to play without being too easy.
The only real gaffs in the story relate to Sonia's demise. You'll wonder about it too once you get there. And then there's the reporter, who's not a reporter, who emerges alive after being in a room with a bad monster. He appears twice and then not again, even though the info you collect suggests that he's a bad dude that needed to be taken down. He's still out there....
Great game, lasts longer than 5 hours for those of us with moderate game skills and is just plain fun. Plus...it's cheap...!!!
Good times [Posted on 2007-09-28] This game is decent, especially considering it was not really a mainstream PS2 game. The controls are not the greatest, especially some of the camera angles. With that being said, however, the gameplay was nice and the storyline not too shabby either. This game grew on me. When I first started playing it, my interest was rather low, but over time I grew to enjoy it. The monsters were pretty smart, and the environments pretty creepy. Too bad this wasnt created for the PC, as I now do not play console games anymore.
Overall = Good
