Empire Earth [Posted on 2006-08-17] If you like strategy games, you'll love this one.
Strategy games don't get old easily as long as it is classic. We have seen from Age of the Empires. They have values. The endless missions, the awesome graphics, and the okay sounds. Endless units are in this game, from cavemen to cyber machines in the 22th century. This game is all you are going to look for in a strategy game. This game is simply huge! And that's what's so enjoyable about it.
Really fun for Everyone (man that was corny) [Posted on 2006-09-13] I'm not really an RTS guy, in fact I stink at them. I have only beaten the computer on my own on easy twice to put it in perspective. I still like the game. Why? 2 words: cheat codes. I also like the variety the game offers, but the AI is ridiculously difficult, even on easy. All in all a fun game b/c of the codes though.
P.S. while i'm a noob at RTS, i'm pretty good at FPS games ;)
Just as good as Age of Empires & Rise of Nations! [Posted on 2007-01-02]
I'm suprised more people don't know about this game because if you're looking for a game that is a cross between Age of Empires and Rise of Nations, then this will give you exactly that:
Positive:
1.) Classic Age of Empires: When you play your very first single player game in Empire Earth you immediatly start off with cavemen just like the first Age of Empires. They talk, gather, walk, chop, and mine just as you'd imagine a caveman would do!
2.) Graphics: Here's where the game switches a bit more into Rise of Nations. Considering this is an older game, the graphics are great! They're just about like the ones in Rise of Nations and in some cases, better!
3.) Advancing: You have the option of starting in the PREHISTORIC age and working your way up to an age beyond our current one. You even go through WW1 and WW2! The ages take a lot of skill and time to advance through as opposed to AOE's and RON's where you can soar from ancient to present in a much quicker time.
4.) Animals: Many different kinds, and believe it or not, they mate. Whether you choose to gather their babies for food is up to you. =o
5.) Trees: You can walk and fight through them so unfortunately for all of us that hid behind them, we no longer can do this technique.
6.) Prophets: Beware of the prophets. In EA a prophet might set an earthquake on your town or perhaps a hurricane and every disaster is realistic and horrible.
7.) Intelligent game: Enemy soldiers know just where you're weak in your city. I built walls and set men and towers almost all around my city when I got attacked. I was shocked to see that the enemy found one very small wall that I forgot to guard. They attacked, ran my village down, and when I tried to run, they chased my villagers across the map (all three of them) and defeated me. Laugh if you want but that was not the least bit funny to me.
Negative:
1.) Difficulty: For some, the difficulty of this game might be their dream, but this game might not be for everyone. From the people that I know that play this game, all use cheats to beat it. Not because it's set on hard or moderate, no, because it's set on easy and the game is really that hard. It's not like AOE or RON where you can set it on easiest and almost for sure beat the game. You only have three choices and I doubt anyone has ever beat the game on moderate.
Summary: This has to be one of the best games I've played in a very long time. Maybe because I'm a fan of Rise of Nations, Age of Empires, and Age of Mythology, but either way this game is addicting and fun. It's a great alternative to the other games if you want to combine them all. I highly recommend it especially to all AOE and RON fans!
Not too complex, and very playable. [Posted on 2007-12-13] Sometimes older games can be more addictive then latest photo realistic battle royale.
The game is a standard RTS game where you civilization evolves from prehistoric up to a nano age. The game is quite addictive, since it doesn't use an overly complex set of unit behaviors, and left to them selves most units can handle enemy recon and scout probes.
The game has priests that can convert enemy units (great when you can get an entire battleship to convert and defect), and prophets who can bring on plagues, quakes, fire storms, and such. A boat full of well place prophets can save your butt if the AI team sudden advances to WWII tech while you're still driving around on horses.
The stock maps are kind of bland, but there are hacks for the game that make the maps more random. max sized random island maps are fun.
population and resource management are pretty simple. The Civs don't need infrastructure (homes increase morale, but aren't need for population). No long supply lines, etc.
Being an older game, you can run it with multiple AI enemies, 600+ units and no lag. Only glitch is that game will crash if you task switch or accidentally hit the windows button.
Even after so many years this game is a blast! [Posted on 2007-12-17] A real time strategy game. That allows your 'people' to evolve through the ages. From Pre-Historic age up to Cyber age. People who love WarCraft 2 will probably like this game.
You can play scenarios built into the game, or even more fun start your own LAN game and play with friends, with and against computers of various difficulties. You cut your own wood, gather food, mine stone, gold, and iron using peasents. With every age the voices and sayings of your 'people' change and evolve.
You can build walls. Setup towers and anti-aircraft for defense. You can wage battles on the high seas.
You can choose custom Civs to give your team an advantage at certain tasks of your choosing, be it farming, or archery, you have a certain number of points to purchase these benefits and it makes the game more interesting.
You can configure your game to start and end in whatever era you like. (we usually cut Cyber out and stop at Atomic).
I've been playing this game since it was released and we still find it to be our favorite. A family get together isn't complete without my 3 brothers, my husband and myself enjoying a day long game of Empire Earth.
