Beware: Found dead pixels on (4) units [Posted on 2007-08-03] I have purchased a pair of G918w1 from Best Buy. Each one had at least one dead pixel. After going through 4 of them decided to return and spend more on a higher quality one. In all cases dead pixels were in the right bottom part, sometimes in the corner sometimes closer to the middle.
Good -- If you get one with no dead/stuck pixels. [Posted on 2007-08-03] (Disclaimer, I actually purchaed this monitor from a "big-box" retail store recently. I saw that Amazon sold it too, so I thought I'd give it a review here).
I'd actually give this monitor a 4 star rating if it wasn't for the fact that the first one I picked up had a dead green sub-pixel. A small issue (and barely noticeable which most usage) but with doing software development and a lot of technical writing, it was annoying. I exchanged it for another identical monitor and carefully inspected it for dead/stuck pixels and it was ok.
The Picture is bright and crisp (at least with DVI, I have not tired VGA). The brightness adjustment is actually quite nice as I do a lot of work at night in a dimly lit office; so its nice to be able to turn the brightness way down -- a feature that a lot of other LCD's seem to lack. The 5ms refresh is quite adequate for game play as well.
This could easily be a 5 star monitor simply based on value if the quality control was a bit better and the off-axis viewing was improved a bit. (Sitting directly in front of it is fine, but I think the 160 degree viewing angle is a bit exaggerated... at least in terms of "useful viewing angle".
EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!-I dont know about the others though [Posted on 2007-08-07] My monitor had no problems.I had got mine in Best Buy for a $130. ( Supposed to be 150 but i was going for an ACER monitor for 130 so they decided to give me 20$ off this one). Being this is kind of a budget type monitor, i got the 4 year warranty. As soon as i hooked it up to my computer via VGA, it was amazing, the picture was supurb (at of course at 1440*900). It came with both VGI and DVI cables (each being abt. 3 feet). I diddn't need the VGI because i already had them. The DVI I used for my ps3 (via HDMI-DVI connector)and inputs at 720p and 1080i which was also great on the monitor. Overall, this monitor was and still is great. I dont know about the other reviews about the dead pixels but I think you should buy a warranty just incase it breaks
Envison some quality control [Posted on 2007-08-16] Bought this baby (G918W1) from the store, you can figure out which one I think, for $130 on sale and figured it had better contrast and response time than some of the other ones so I figured I 'd give it a shot. I had read other reviews about others taking them back multiple times because of dead/stuck pixels right out of the box but I thought I would be more lucky than that. NOT! Granted it's only one pixel but it was right in the middle of the screen, and it was a bright blue. Once you notice it, it's all your eyes can focus on. Granted 130 bucks isn't much relative to other flat panel lcds, and I know this type of thing happens to them but it's 130 bucks for something that is shaddy quality right out of the box...come on...
Another note...if you buy this guy, don't attach it to it's base right away as it is a beast to remove if you need to return it/exchange it.
Wonderful monitor [Posted on 2008-02-08] This monitor has been working perfectly from day one and is a good add-on if you're looking to go with a dual monitor setup.
