MAC USERS BE WARNED!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS SCANNER!!!!!!! [Posted on 2007-06-18]
The software that comes with this scanner claims to be Mac compatible. It really is not. This scanner simply DOES NOT WORK with a MAc OS system, at least not with my Intel 10.4.9. The EPSPON SCAN software does not boot up automatically. I was able to scan using the horrendous Arcsoft Photoimpression software, but only at the lowest resolution. Arcsoft crashes with anything over 800 dpi.

How EPSPON can even claim their product is MAC-compatible is an almost fraudulent claim on their part. Call to EPSON yielded ZERO results. A NIGHTMARE.

This may work with Windows. IT IS A TERRIBLE PRODUCT FOR MAC.

For the love of God, do NOT buy this scanner [Posted on 2007-06-18]
This scanner is a perfect example of "you get what you pay for." It's a cheap piece of crap. I suppose it's okay if you want to scan a snapshot and do nothing to it--but if you want to try the various settings to do something "professional," prepare to be astounded. And confounded. The machine locks up and offers no way to unlock it. Among the most offensive things is that there is no power button. Imagine leaving a piece of equipment turned on, for eternity, to suck up valuable electric power! One doesn't even use a photo scanner all the time==so why leave it on forever? Can that really be Epson's intent? (Won't this anger Al Gore and Leo?) Every time the scanner locked up, I had to unplug the power source to unlock the process, because it won't restart the program again. Then my computer restarted itself every time I unplugged the power source--which damned near crashed my computer the 8th time I had to do it.

There's got to be something better out there, even if it means spending a little more. I'm going to find it.

perfect for my use. [Posted on 2007-07-05]
To start with Amazon blew me away with delivery. Ordered one afternoon and it was delivered next AM at 9:30.
The scanner itself, was so easy to use, copies of perfect quality.
It developed a small glitch with the software, but, there was a PHONE #
to call and a LIVE PERSON answered with the expertise to get me going again real fast.
A quality experience all around.

I was pleasantly surprised. [Posted on 2007-09-13]
After reading some of the negative comments regarding this scanner I was quite hesitant to buy one, but the price was right, so I did. I was pleasantly surprised. It worked as advertised and the setup was without complications (for my PC at least, it may be different for a Mac). One word of advice; I believe that some people may have had trouble because they did not install the software before they installed the hardware. If you install the hardware first the computer may assign the wrong driver to it and then you are in deep trouble. It is sometimes difficult to then get the right driver assigned and if this is not done the scanner will never work right (if at all).

I scanned prints and slides without any trouble and I liked the way the film adapter stored in the cover. As far as the lack of an on/off switch goes; this is the third scanner that I have owned and neither of the previous two had one. I connect the scanner and my camera attachment to a separate terminal strip, which I can turn off, so the lack of an on/off switch is not a problem. Even if you do not do this, the lamp (which is the major power consumer) turns off automatically, so the lack of an internal switch is not a serious problem. (For those who do not know it, many of the things that you own, such as your TV and computer monitor do not completely turn off when you switch them off. There is generally some minimum power consumption to keep things warm. This minimizes the thermal shock when things are turned on and lengthens the component lives. If you want to actual turn things off you have to unplug them, or attach them through a terminal strip that has an on/off switch.)

I mentioned that this is the third scanner that I have owned. The other two failed to operate after a while and I could never figure out why. The lamps worked, but the Twain failed to be recognized. This occurred when a new operating system was installed, so I am reasonably sure that it was a software problem. If anyone knows why this was the case, please let me know through the comments section. Thank you.

The Epson V100 Pure Frustration [Posted on 2007-11-13]
I have owned dozens of Epson products and two previous Epson scanners. They have all performed reliably. When my last trusty scanner started to show its age I figured the V100 would be a great replacement. Instead I feel thoroughly cheated by Epson. It has major trouble being properly recognized by the Twain drivers and instead prefers to go into some sort of hardware coma - blinking red or green light mode indefinitely. Repowering or reinitializing generally does not fix the problem. Sometimes a reboot will. Then if it does scan it has another problem where it starts to grind and click and the scans are smeared. When it does scan yes they are great scans.

Epson's support is lousy. There is no acknowledgment of these faults on their website. They do not reply to emails. Phone support steps you through the usual routines. The only option I'm given after a month is to take it to a repair center.
