I've had my Epson V200 scanner for a week now and have to say that this is the best scanner I've ever owned. This scanner was easy to setup and easy to use. The software has three modes: Auto, Home and Advanced. The Auto mode is just that, press the button and it scans the image (or images) into a preset directory. Home adds more options like backlight correction, dust removal and color restoration. Advanced gives you access to all the bells and whistles.

The image recognition is great. Place three 4x6's on the platten and it produces 3 seperate image files. It also easily scans up to 4 slides and 6 frames on a negative. I've used it to scan prints, negatives and slides so far and the results have been excellent.

The only problem I've had is when I tried to scan negatives from 126 Instamatic film. The software is optimized for 35mm film and you'll have to work with the scanner to get it to work with negatives from other formats.

But remember this is a sub $100 scanner and it aimed at the common user, which is typically 35mm film.

Once again I am totally pleased with this product.

good design for people with arm/hand disabilities [Posted on 2008-02-23]
The fact that it opens on the (left) side makes it MUCH easier for me to use than most brands, which open front to back. [I have severe arm weakness and limited range of motion.] Other people with disabilities are always needing to know of products that happen to have good accessibility features because so few mainstream products are intentionally planned that way. I DO wish scanners would include good, basic OCR software for standard typefonts in their installation software packages. The reasonably-priced add-ons I've found so far are poor and the better ones are costly because they (try) to decipher handwriting. [When/if I need that, I'd rather pay for it separately.]

This is my third scanner (over the years)and by far the best. Installation went without a hitch. Operation is easy and the software is straightforward. Scanning is quite fast. The slide scanning feature works great. No complaints at all and very happy with my purchase.

I had been using an out-of-date scanner & wanted a simple scanner for family photos that worked on MAC Leopard.

This scanner works well. The sale/delivery was top notch & the price reasonable.

Thanks to Amazon's shipping efficiency, I got my scanner faster than expected. Only to find out sooner that the glass was dirty inside (spots of iridescence and cloudiness). Not something you would want from a scanner supposed to give you a sharp rendition of the stuff you put on.
I agree the scanning is fast, and it works well with Leopard.
I also agree with previous comments on the poor choice of power and usb ports location.
As for the software... Well, I wasn't impressed (for a Mac user, there was a "classic feel" to it), but didn't take the time to look into it.
We'll see how the return process goes...
