"THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING" [Posted on 2008-03-30] Good looking, small foot print; easy set up; good fax transmission speed; average scan speed; 2 1/2" LCD is a nice feature, as is the auto doc feeder...
The Bad: draft mode which produces the highest print speed will give you a text document that's faint, and grey scale like (very hard to read, especially if you're printing a PDF doc) ...forget color printing in draft, it's way too faint...Same thing when you use the copy function in draft mode...very faint, hard to read docs. The draft speed mode of my alternate HP 6180 printer, produces a clearer, darker print doc, and the color draft print is much better too...
Fax phone hook up: again, not like the HP6180C...if you have an answering machine, the fax feature should function fine for you...However, if you have phone company voice mail like I do the fax will not work automatically...you have to be present to accept the incoming fax, unless you have distinctive ring service from your phone company...
Bottom Line: After a weeks worth of use I'm taking this printer back and exchanging for either a Canon Pixma AIO, or an HP AIO...
The Epson works like a champ [Posted on 2008-04-07] I have found the Epson Stylus CX9400Fax Color All-in-One Printer to be a joy to use, it is head and shoulders above the HP all in one I had! The HP does not use as much ink as the epson.I can live with it. I love the epson!!
Brought my old HP home from work, this is terrible [Posted on 2008-04-20] Unit worked great until I need to replace cartridges. Error B 68/69 comes up and this is with genuine Epson Cartridges. Cleaned it, reinstalled the cartridges, tried the old "almost" empty cartridges, can't get it to work. I will never buy and Epson product again, My HP 733C is 10 years old and still works like a champ. I'll keep the Epson for the scanner as it still works, otherwise, junk....
Very Disappointed!!! [Posted on 2008-05-04] It has four ink cartridges to "save you money" so you don't waste ink. If one ink cartridge shows up empty then the ENTIRE printer is out of commission; no sending faxes, no scanning images to your computer...NOTHING. Not only that but just printing black text will make the other cartridges' ink levels decrease. If you print a lot of text, this is not the printer for you unless you intend to replace cartridges you barely use.
I live in a small town and it is impossible to find a retailer that sells this type of cartridge, not even Wal-mart. I have to drive an hour or wait two days for an online order to arrive. This is my first Epson and will most likely be my last.
Avoid Epson [Posted on 2008-05-05] I bought the Epson CX9400Fax yesterday, and I keep getting a "cannot recognize ink cartridges" message during the setup process. And these are the official Epson inks that were in the box with the printer! Their site's support pages were of no use, and so I decided to look for help through a search engine. What I discovered is that this problem is incredibly common with several Epson models. And the only recommendation the company's tech support seems to offer is to return the printer for an exchange. So yes, I'll be exchanging mine.... For an HP or Brother.
