Excellent value [Posted on 2008-04-04] This is the fourth printer and the first all-in-one for me. I've found that Epsons hold up much better than Lexmarks. I'm replacing a five-year-old Epson PhotoStylus 925, which was cost-prohibitive as far as any repairs go.
Set-up is a snap and the printer is very easy to use, I would say, even for newbies. Quick Start guide has enough info. to get you through most projects. Extensive online guide, and project software included.
You can load pictures from a memory card, directly from a camera, or any other drive where you store your photos. Edit pics using printer's LCD screen and included firmware. It even prints on CDs and DVDs.
It's Energy Star compliant. I just wish that I could program it to turn itself off after long periods of not being used.
fulfills my printer/scanner/copier needs [Posted on 2008-04-05] The Epson RX595 does everything well. I have printed photo quality portraits and printed labels on CDs and DVDs. It does everything just as it says it will.
It feels and sounds a little light weight - but no more than comparable printers from other manufacturers.
With the Amazon price - plus free shipping... I could not be happier!
epsons sinking quality [Posted on 2008-04-07] Bought my rx595 from best buy and took it home. and right out of the box it never recognized its own bloody ink cartridges. So I call epson support, and they told me that this is happening a lot and sent me out a new one. But I must say what pisses me off the most about these "printers" are how often they need repair "ultimately Replaced". Had the model below this one and a message one day came up saying that there is a part inside that needs servicing. which locked it down, So I couldn't do anything with it. Luckily best buy took this one back. Second printer same model now just a month ago said in a error message that there are parts inside that are "outdated" and told me to get it replaced. Its all just unacceptable. I have an old epson 785 EPX that I have had for over 7 years. Has never broken. Takes any after market ink, and does a dang good job. Now days epsons printers are so locked down you cant even get them to work with there genuine own ink cartridges. Dont buy epson
WARNING when buying Epson products [Posted on 2008-04-18] PURCHASE YOUR EPSON PRODUCT THROUGH AN AUTHORIZED DEALER OR FROM EPSON DIRECTLY.
This is not a review of this product, but rather a word to the wise... Two and half months after my purchase of an Epson 10000XL scanner through Amazon, it stopped working. Through the followup and tech support process I learned that, because I purchased through Amazon, the manufacturer nor the seller would honor the 1 year warranty. Epson's position is that Amazon is not an authorized seller and that they merely act as broker for what can often be re-furbished or second hand merchandise.
So, should your purchase break or malfunction, as mine did, you are out of luck with regard to warranty.
This lesson cost me $2400.00
Great as a photo only printer. [Posted on 2008-05-05] Just got one over the weekend. Have printed quite a few pictures from our recent trip. All of them look great. The two reasons I got it were for it's photo quality (hard to tell from lab prints - well maybe it's better than the last ones I had done by Kodak online) and to print on CD/DVDs. In both of these areas it's top notch. I don't plan on doing any B/W or office type of printing on it (have a Canon Multifunction for that) so I'm not concerned with the color ink consumption when printing B/W (although I do think that is a design flaw). I printed over 20 4x6 and 2 8x10 photos and a few CDs before any of the color tanks showed less than completely full. Haven't used the scanner (only got the one with the scanner for the card reader anyway since it was on sale for the same price) so I can't comment on it.
