Excellent shredder, tough, easy to use, looks expensive [Posted on 2008-04-27] Time owned: 3 months
Use: Very heavy
Quality: excellent. I work in health care & use this in my private office & am constantly shredding sensitive patient information along with the occasional spam credit cards in the mail. Works very well and I have not had to re-oil it yet. We shred everything from CDs to papers, to mail, to credit cards, to paperclips/etc with no issues. Also shreds through plastic without jamming.
Looks: sleek, looks very expensive. Bin also looks expensive though when you take it out it feels flimsier being so light. So far though no issues with the bin & the window helps alot with emptying.
Downsides: Does overheat if you shred many thick packets of paper in a row however the shredder automatically shuts down to cool down & lights on the side tell you when its ready to go again. Not a terribly long wait, just go get a coffee & come back to it.
Great for a home office & also for PERSONAL use at work. Would not advise shredding a whole business worth of information with this thing.
Fellowes Shredder [Posted on 2008-05-02] I've had other shredders but this one by Fellowes is fantastic! Easily shreds several sheets at a time and has a slot for the shredding of plastic credit cards. It does all with ease. The front pull-out container makes it easy to dispose of the shredded paper. Using the plastic bags that fit within the container makes it even easier. Highly recommend this product.
Shredding Away [Posted on 2008-05-02] This product is great, have shredded so many papers, the best is the credit card shredder. We have had this shredder almost a month and I would tell everyone to buy one. No problems with it at all. Also holds alot of paper in the basket. I put in a clear plastic bag so all we have to do is pull it out, no mess.
Disappointed! [Posted on 2008-05-03] After reading all these "rave" reviews of this shredder, I decided to go ahead and buy it. Boy, was I disappointed. Why?
1. The shredder itself is VERY heavy and buckles the flimsy plastic basket assembly below.
2. It shreds very slowly.
3. It can only handle approximately 8 pages at a time.
4. It jams fairly easily.
5. It jammed with the first DVD I shredded. The second DVD shredded fine.
6. The basket is small and the shredded material is very messy (contains paper dust). It seems like the blades are not too sharp because the shredded pieces have a very rough texture.
That said, I would NOT recommend this shredder.
It's a keeper [Posted on 2008-05-06] I bought this to replace my 6-year-old Aurora shredder after I jammed its motor. Compared to that, it's a powerhouse. I had to shred about 10 pounds of paper that had collected since Aurora's death. The Powershred finished the job in short order, with only 2 minor jams that were easy to reverse. You need to be careful if you're using heavy stock paper, don't push the limit. I followed the instructions and let it cool down after each 20-min shred session... the motor felt hot but didn't overheat, and I was able to restart within another 20-30 min. The safety shut-off is awesome, especially with 2 curious cats around, and I like that its use is optional. Good capacity storage, and easy to empty. I'm not keen on using the oil, I find it rather messy, but in the interest of longevity I'm using it anyway. Good value for a medium-use shredder. Overall, definitely happy with this purchase.
