5 Stars - PERFECT!! [Posted on 2008-04-26] I purchased this phone to use as a wall phone for my mother. She LOVES it!
Some phones seem to have adjustments that just don't quite do it. We are very pleased with the adjustment levels (noise levels, screen darkness - lightness, etc.) available on this phone.
The big buttons are easy for my mother to see and maneuver.
I installed the phone at eye level. She has no difficulties reading the Caller ID lighted display. The display is large and can be adjusted lighter or darker. Also, the Caller ID portion is plugged into an electrical outlet, so there are no expensive batteries to bother with.
One reviewer mentioned difficulty with the handset sitting firmly in the base. We have not encountered that problem.
There are three adjustments for the ringer volume, low, high, and off. Low is loud enough for my mother, but high isn't an uncomfortable loud.
The handset having an adjustable volume level is wonderful as well. My mother can easily adjust the volume to hear the callers that tend to whisper, and she can turn down the ones that yell. ;)
This phone has great features that anyone can appreciate. It looks good and is easy to use... but it is a MUST HAVE for an elderly person.
Good Overall [Posted on 2008-04-27] Basically, I like this phone. It has a fairly small footprint while still having good large buttons. The volume is easily adjusted. The contrast on the small screen is also easily modified, and the speakerphone works very well.
As another reviewer commented, you do have to be sure you get the headset cradled properly to hang up a call.
The one feature I really wish it had is an indicator light for Call Notes messages waiting.
Basic Phone. My 90 year old mom-in-law likes it. [Posted on 2008-04-27] I purchased this for my mother-in-law in assisted living. It's a basic phone, works well, and she likes it. Amazon is a godsend for those of us that need to buy items for elderly relatives in other parts of the country. My mom is 100, my mom-in-law is 90. Thank you Amazon for making it possible for us to make their lives a little better.
big button phone GE [Posted on 2008-04-29] I should've sent this phone back. The initial calling out works fine, but to retrieve messages or continue
when prompted on menus, pushing the buttons won't allow one to proceed. So I'm back at our other, old phone when I know I need to retrieve from my message line.
The speaker phone part works fine, as does the caller ID which we needed.
If you get this phone and have problems, don't hesitate like I did to send it back within the 30 days.
Fantastic Phone, But Receiver Doesn't Fit Base Securely [Posted on 2008-05-02] I bought two of these phones at a store in Greenville, Maine while traveling because I was so taken with the idea of a large caller ID and large buttons. The phone is really great, super easy to dial and you can read the caller ID from a few feet away. There are other great features too: the speaker phone is incredibly easy to use and very very clear, the volume has a graphic display in the caller ID (also a great thing), there is a mute button and also the caller ID is easy to scroll (and easy to delete calls). You can also flash over from one call to another quickly. This is a great phone and a bargain for $25. But...
But the receiver does not fit well into the base unit (as others have pointed out repeatedly) and you can leave the phone off the hook VERY easily without knowing it (and the alarm tone is so quiet you won't hear it warning you that it is off the hook). For that reason, you have to check to be sure it's hung up--every time. It's not a big deal, but you have to be careful replacing the receiver. It DOES fit well if you place it carefully and don't bump it. That has unfortunately happened to me several times. I hang up the phone in my office (but apparently haven't sat it well in the base) and go to my den to use the other phone and find out the other phone isn't hung up. So you have to trek to the other base and hang it up properly. You learn after a few times, but still, a pain.
GE needs to fix this annoying flaw and they'll have one of the best phone bargains on the market. I have to say that based on how much I love the other features of this phone I would buy more of them--it is a great phone and, while it's only a phone, it's nice to have a phone I actually like.
If only GE read the Amazon reviews and fixed the one flaw.
Also: Amazon Alert! Have you noticed how many items are priced at $24.99 so you miss free shipping by one penny? You are forced to buy a second item to get the free shipping. Hey, Amazon, we spend a lot of money here: how about raising the price to $25 and get past this silly game?
