Great item [Posted on 2008-04-06] I highly recommend. All readouts are in large letters and numbers. Easy to use. After buying one for my bedroom I bought another to put by my recliner, for those nights I doze off.
BIG CALLER ID DISPLAY [Posted on 2008-04-10] Best phone I have found with the features I want most. This is the 2nd one I have purchased and I am planning to buy another.
PRO:
Corded phone (the cordless phones seem to disappear into the nether regions of my
home). I can always find this phone.
Caller ID name & number are displayed on front display panel and are a much
larger size than on other phones. This feature allows me to clearly see who
is calling so I don't have to pick phone up to read it or struggle to find
my glasses first. (I admit I screen my calls but my spouse's friends seldom
want to talk to me anyway.)
Electric with battery backup. I don't like having to change batteries regularly
because I think it is expensive and bad for the planet. The batteries will
allow the phone to continue working if power fails.
Ringer can be turned off. I can hear fine so I do not want to hear 6 phones
ringing whenever I get a call.
Clock is automatically set when calls come in. Phone also stores time and date of
incoming calls.
Price can't be beat for the features. Remember, with phones the adage, "you get
what you pay for" is absolutely true. I think $20 for this phone is a bargain
BUT I do not expect it to last for years. I hope I get 2 years but 1 year
would be reasonable for the price.
CON:
Handset is not easily picked up or replaced. This really is a poor design.
Handset cord seems short. It is the standard length that comes with most phones
but because of the weird handset placement it seems much shorter. I recommend
you buy a longer cord if you purchase this phone.
Annoying new call light. Most of the phones I have purchased over the past few
years have this light. I don't know anyone who likes it but we are stuck with
it. Wish they made an option to turn it off. I put a piece black tape over it.
Best invention! [Posted on 2008-04-20] For years I had a cordless phone on my night stand. I can't tell you all the times the phone would ring late at night and I would reach to answer....no phone on the night stand. Somebody (probably me) had carried off the cordless! It finally hit me. Duh...they had this new invention...a corded phone that can't be carried off! So I went on a mission to pick out a corded phone that couldn't run away, but discovered there aren't many out there. Also between my alarm clock, lamp, tissue box, glasses, etc there wasn't much room for a phone. Then I found it. A phone/alarm clock all in one! And it even has Caller ID so you don't have to answer annoying calls in the middle of the night. A must have! Every bedroom should have one!
Bedroom Telephone [Posted on 2008-05-19] I was looking for a corded phone to put on my nightstand. This phone is perfect because the information is on the front of the phone and is well illuminated. I can see who the caller is without turning on the light or picking up the handset.
Good for power outages [Posted on 2008-06-14] I just wanted a phone that would show the Caller-ID when the power goes out; easy with the 9V battery. And I love the large display. I put it in a room we all pass through so we can see if there are any calls at a glance.
I bought this for $10 less at my local Target Store, and have had it for one day. It could go back if things fail soon. This is my second GE phone/clock radio. I still use the radio and clock on my 18-year-old model; the handset quit working 12 years ago, so it is off of the old unit.
