Customer Reviews:

Great Monitor! [Posted on 2008-05-02]
I purchased this monitor a little over a week ago and have been thoughly impressed. I wasn't sure about spending so much money on a Gateway monitor, but after reading all the reviews from everyone I went ahead and purchased it. My only real concern was that I read a few times about backlight seepage, so far I have not had any problems with that.

The Picture-In-Picture feature is awesome! I have been messing around with extending my desktop to it and watching video that way. The only thing I have noticed when I am watching video on either input it is a little choppy, but I am blaming my video card for this (its pretty cheap) it's an XFX GF 7300GT 512mb, and while it should have more than enough video ram, it cant seem to handle it. But I used to have a Samsung 193P and when I watched some HD video I transfer from my TiVo on that it was really dark, barely visible. Whereas when I played in on this monitor it was gorgous!

Colorwise the only thing I have noticed is that it is brighter than my old Samsung LCD, but not much. I have calibrated it by eye and I think it is pretty spot on. I am a web designer so I have to have color as closely calibrated to what everyone sees on their monitor and I feel this one does that very well.

It does run a little hot on the back, but that is to be expected with a monitor so large. Contrary to other reviews I had read I feel the stand is really stable and the monitor moves up and down with hardly any effort (remember that when you go to pick it up to move it!) The EZ Tune software is fine, nothing to exciting, but I dont know what could be more exciting about monitor software...

I dont have the soundbar so I dont know how that works. I havn't tried the HD, Componet or Composite video inputs yet, but I dont know how there could be any problems with them. I wish it had a tv tuner in it, nothing exciting just a basic one for the P-I-P. The USB plugs are handy, but the two that are on the back with the other inputs can get a little crowded.

Over all if you need the monitor real estate this is great monitor! Just run though the manual calibration to get it to a level that wont kill your eyes.

GATEWAY FHD2400 24" HD Monitor [Posted on 2008-05-18]
Just like most folks looking for a large monitor I checked other reviews and looked locally. My choices came down to the HP and Gateway. I could never find the HP with the DVI connector, only the HDMI version. The DVI version also sold for $100 more! I think they made a marketing error manufacturing two models with different connectivity. The Gateway has HDMI, DVI, Component, S and Composite video. I bought the Gateway on other's reviews and am very pleased with it. There was mention of backlight on a totally black screen and yes there is a slight amount, but so what ? The screen has to be totally black to see it so what's the point ? I'm not a gamer so this situation never comes up for me. I'm using DVI and the picture is very clear, the menu is very cool in that is uses the side buttons and the changing functions are called out on the screen next to the appropriate button. The adjustments are very comprehensive. The screen is very good at the usual viewing angles, there is a slight loss of brightness at the top unless you are sitting with your eyes near they very top of the screen. This monitor does not match the uniform brightness of the 24" iMac screen which sits next to it in my setup, but then, I've not seen any other monitor that does. I also bought the matching speakers that mount underneath and they are fine for internet trolling or basic audio. If you're doing any serious audio, use a serious amp and speakers. Very quick assembly, good manual.

All around greatness [Posted on 2008-08-18]
The screen size is about perfect and you can adjust it for all angles to get the best view(meaning you can tilt it up, down, left, right, raise it up or lower it). It looks sleek without having the buttons and the extra usb slots(4 of them) are convenient. It has a great variety of inputs(which is why I chose it over the newer model) and while it also has a lower contrast ratio then the newer model, I can't tell the difference. The picture quality is great. I use it with my ps3 and it's a sharp, crisp picture with a great response time.

The only bad things I can say about it is that when you want to turn the screen, the entire base has to be turned. So, if you have a cramped work space, you got to move everything. I suppose this is to keep the center of gravity at the center of the stand, but it can still be annoying. Also, it picks up some glare, which too can be annoying. I really haven't had a problem with it however, but I would have expected it to not have so much glare. My biggest problem with it however is that it doesn't have built in speakers. This probably wouldn't be a problem for most people(and it isn't for me when I have it at my house) but I take it over to my brother's house for lan parties(CoD4) and not having sound makes the gameplay a little weird.

For the price I paid, I couldn't be happier with what I got though. I am very happy with my purchase.

Great monitor, good price [Posted on 2008-09-17]
I liked this monitor so much that I bought a second one for my work computer. Does have light bleed around edges as some people have noted, but under normal operation, I have not noticed this at all. Adjustment software quickly guided me through the process and the picture is great.

Monitor does have an annoying feature that it defaults to portrait mode when the system goes to sleep, once you log back in (mouse up and down becomes right and left, takes a little practice), the monitor goes back to normal.

Cool so far [Posted on 2008-10-03]
This is a great buy for those who want a monitor that also is their only tv. Very bright. Looks very nice too. I do have to say that I have one bad pixel but because it's up near the top I really cannot see it being an OSX user.

Q: will i buy it again?
A: Yes!!!

I think that I am going to getGateway FHD2401 along with the mac pro I will pick up later this year...
