Runs well [Posted on 2006-07-15] I've had the HP DeskJet 5150 for a couple of years, and it runs very well as a plug and play device in my Linux system. The black and white printing is sharp, and the colors and vibrant.
This printer replaces an earlier HP deskjet that died on us. I am hopeful this one will last longer. But the price was right.
I would agree with other reviewers who find the paper tray too short. It is also somewhat temperamental, and requires careful placement of relatively small paper stacks. In other words, it's not an industrial strength printer.
It's a good machine. I recommend this printer to all those needing a sharp, clean printer, for not a lot of cash.
Oh yeah, and it works with Linux!
gets 'er done! [Posted on 2007-03-08] Works well as both a photo printer and general use printer. With settings for Photo printing, the image quality is very good. The ink cartridges are expensive.
I loved it so much i got another one. [Posted on 2007-05-09] and another one. I have had this printer for several years. My sister bought one and my brother bought one too. we all still have our printers and love them. We buy bulk or remanufactured inks at great dscounts. Am hoping to upgrade to an all in one with an lcd screen, but still scared it won't be this good. I print photos all the time, people cannot believe i printed at home. of course u have to learn how to work with your printer and get the right paper. but once u get it wow the quality is great
Old reliable [Posted on 2007-06-27] Old reliable and easy to refill the cartridges. This is my third one. I have burned out two others with HEAVY use. When this one goes, I will get a fourth. I don't trust the new models. HP seems to be catering to the photo printing crowd, and I prefer to get my photos finished commercially. I have had problems refilling the color cartridges, but since I use color so infrequently, this probably contributes to the problem, and also the reliability of B&W printing and ease of refilling the B&W cartridges more than makes up for it.
Amazon steals my money [Posted on 2008-10-12] Amazon charged my credit card $61.99 and promised shipping between Sept 17 and Oct 2. It is now October 12 and I have not received the printer. Several e-mails were sent but nothing has been done about it. As far as I am concerned Amazon has stolen the money and not performed thus losing any further business from me.I later discovered 5 letters of similar complaint on their site.
