Not so portable [Posted on 2008-03-11] I have had this for about a year. I swore several years back to never buy any HP products again but since this had such good reviews I figured I'd give them another chance. The battery was DOA so I had another shipped to me, which wouldn't charge, so I had another shipped to me, are you following me? this is the 3rd battery and it won't charge with the AC power cable. So in order to use my "portable" printer on the road I have to either take a power inverter with me and the AC power cable, or find an outlet in a clients location, which is sometimes difficult as I work in the industrial construction field and finding clean power, in a clean area is, well, very difficult, not to mention unprofessional looking. I then have to set up my laptop, cables, printer etc. somewhere on a construction site and print before I get the whole setup full of dust or worse. I bought this thinking I could simply print a spreadsheet or proposal in my vehicle. Shame on me for expecting such a mammoth task from a "portable" device.
Great Product [Posted on 2008-03-16] Easy to install on Vista. Nice portable size and good speed ans print quality for it's size. I have not tried it with the battery yet.
Great Printer - Very easy to setup [Posted on 2008-03-21] When I was trying to decide which printer to buy I knew I wanted 2 things:
1. Compact
2. Great quality prints
The choice for me came down to the Canon Pixma iP90v Photo Inkjet Printer and the HP Deskjet 460c. I won't lie, initially the Canon seemed more attractive until I realized that it only worked with IE6 (eek!) which is when I started looking at the HP. I read all of the customer reviews and really became worried that it was going to be challenging to setup, especially for Wireless however I was feeling pretty confident in my ability to read and execute instructions that day so I ordered it.
With trepidation I followed the picture instructions on the HP quick setup page. These instructions are similar to Ikea instructions so I was sort of nervous but I followed each frame exactly as they specified...and what do you figure, it worked! With a wireless card, it printed and let me tell you, this is a GREAT printer.
Frankly All I can assume is that the people (who wrote the negative reviews) didn't follow the instructions because it was really easy to setup?
In summary, it's okay to buy this printer. The print quality is exceptional and it's nice and compact. It doesn't feel flimsy. It is really really nice.
This is an awesome printer! [Posted on 2008-04-20] This printer is great. So small and compact. I got it to fit into my tiny computer armoire and takes up very little space. It prints super fast and does a great job.
Expect Setup Problems [Posted on 2008-05-01] I read the reviews on this product as to the difficulty of wireless setup. It is not a simple procedure and I have yet to get mine working (I have not spent enough time with it I suppose).
USB wired, it works great! If you are purchasing for the convienience of wireless use, expect to spend a lengthy amount of time with setup.
