excellent value and function for the price [Posted on 2007-11-12] The HP D1430 Deskjet (inkjet) printer is an overlooked little marvel. When my printer died a few weeks ago I knew it was time to look around for another printer--and this printer was the one for people like me.
Sure, it's just a printer. It doesn't scan, fax or copy. But, then again, this still makes for an excellent color inkjet printer for young students or anyone like me who is on a budget.
There are preliminary instructions that make the initial setup and unpacking of the printer a snap. After that, the setup was still very easy--once I remembered to temporarily disable my firewall and my antivirus software! The printer comes with a CD that has all the software you'll need to install and connect this computer to the rest of your PC system. It works with Macintosh computers, too. Just insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive and it's practically effortless after that.
You'll get a color printer cartridge with the box and a power supply cable; but if yours comes like mine you'll still need a USB cable (you may try to use an old one lying around to save a little money first) and you will also need a black ink cartridge. Why HP only gives you a color starter ink cartridge and not a black starter cartridge I'll never know. Good thing I bought a two pack of cartridges at the store before I returned home!
The printer takes up very little space; and it prints very, very well in both complex colors and plain old black and white. It can print photos as well if you install the CD that enables the printer to print photos. It also comes with extra CDs that let you make greeting cards and practice your typing skills. That's a good value!
I highly recommend this printer; according to the store manager very few, if any, customers of his ever bring them back for a refund. This printer is best suited for people who just want a value oriented basic, easy to operate color inkjet printer that can still print photos without any major bells or whistles.
Hunkajunk [Posted on 2008-01-03] I bought this printer for schoolwork while at college, but it turns out to be an unreliable piece of junk. It goes through a lot of $$$ ink and it often gets jammed. I often have to pull out the paper and manually move the cartridges back. Junk. Junk. Junk.
You have to purchase your own USB Cable? [Posted on 2008-01-20] I just purchased this printer today. I needed a printer to get by until I have the money to buy a nice wireless printer. This printer is cheap, looks cheap, sounds cheap... but it prints surprisingly well.
The most frustrating part of buying this printer, though, was that I had to purchase my own USB cable! That's just ridiculous.
Worst printer ever [Posted on 2008-09-06] This came for free with my computer. And I can see why they were giving it away. It is awful.
It jams constantly. Every time I have a print job I have to wait for it to jam, fix it, and then try again.
I am going to go buy a new one this one is so frustrating.
I am so glad I did not pay for it, do yourself a favor and don't bother.
