The Ideal Backup and Moving Solution [Posted on 2006-02-28] The HD3000 is the perfect solution for two problems:
Using several units, it is easy to backup the entire computer. The backup can be easily removed and stored remotely.
For people who relocate their workplace frequently, this unit allows quick moving of mass amounts of data.
Of course, this applies to users who buy the high-end HP personal computer that has a docking slot for the Personal Media Drive. If you don't have those PCs this solution is no better than any other USB extenral drive (cables, power supplies, etc. required).
Great product - very easy to use [Posted on 2006-03-11] I have this product for several weeks now, and it works great.
I wanted to get some extra storage space and some backup capacity for my HP Media Center Desktop. I decided to buy the HD3000 because it was designed to fit in the Personal Media Drive slot of my HP Media Center.
Installation was very easy: I just installed the software (it included a backup software), inserted the HD3000 into its slot, and I had an additional hard drive!
I have been storing movies and pictures on it, and used it as backup for another PC. No need for painful backups to CDs!
I cannot see the difference between the speed of the HD3000 and the speed of the hard disk on my PC. Net, I gained 300 Gb of extra storage that is easily attached to my Media Center and can easily be plugged into another computer (via USB).
I definitely recommend buying this product for anybody with a HP Media Center!
Worst product - crashed in 2 months [Posted on 2006-06-26] Don't buy. I bought one, loaded it with movies and it crashed. I lost 2 months worth of work. Tech support even worse, each call lasted over an hour and was transferred at least 3 times. When I finally did get help and a replacement was sent, it too was defective. So back through the "support" line. HP = Horrible Product
Buyer Beware [Posted on 2006-10-09] Like the other reviewer of this product, I too had a Personal Media Drive fail well before the 12-month warranty ran out. Calls to HP yielded no less than 12 transfers to different departments, none of whom were able to assist in getting this defective brick repaired/replaced. The unit worked flawlessly to backup important business data (along with music files), but when it failed, it failed miserably. I purchased this to go with the HP Media Center PC I purchased a few months before (w/ built-in drive bay to handle "the brick").
Will positively NOT purchase another, and urge others to consider a more reliable product before handing over your $$$ to HP.
