Great Little Machine For Home Office [Posted on 2004-12-19]
At first I bought a big expensive HP machine up around $300. I had it only about 3 days and was very dissatisfied and took it back to the store. It was too big with too many functions and seemed quite akward to use. I did call HP tech support and they were helpful even though they were some place in India. I was choosing HP for my fax/printer because I had learned they did, in fact, have reachable and helpful tech support people.

I went back to the store hoping to find a simpler but quality machine. I chose the 4110 Multifunction at a little over $100. I found the 4110 to be a smaller and more modern looking unit. Learning how to use its functions was easier and took less time than on the larger HP units. The unit is ideal for a student or a small home business. The ink lasts longer than some competitor's units. The quality of the color print-outs is outstanding.

The biggest problem with the 4110 is that it stacks the pages in reverse order. One through Five comes out as Five through One.

Do NOT buy this machine!!! [Posted on 2005-04-13]
We've had this multifunction fax in our office for about 6 months now, and I consider it a huge disappointment. At even the most basic level, it just doesn't do the job. Although it claims to handle 20 pages, it can't feed more than about 10 sheets without jamming. Even faxing only one page, I have misfeeds at least once a week. I expect to be able to put my fax in the machine, dial it, and walk away, but with this machine I have to babysit every page.

The fax includes software (HP Image Zone) that allows you to send faxes from your computer. Sounds great, but there are some drawbacks. First, the program is huge, over 400 MB, and most of it is extraneous junk. Second, if you send a fax from your computer and the line is busy, IT DOES NOT REDIAL!! Unbelievable, but it actually gives you a message that the line was busy and puts it in the log. If you want to redial, you have to open the log and resend it yourself.

Finally, the HP fax that we were using before was about five years old, and it had the capability of receiving faxes into the computer. This is a great function, and something that we really depended on. Why waste all of that paper on junk faxes, extraneous pages, or documents that could just be stored on the computer? Also, it made it possible to look up old faxes if the paper copy was lost. I assumed that a newer HP multifunction that advertised the ability to communicate with your PC would have the same ability to receive faxes, but I was wrong. Believe it or not, HP has abandoned this capability in all of their faxes! If you want to receive a fax into you PC, you have to buy a special modem separate from the one in the machine itself.

Please, do yourself a favor and buy a better machine. This one just isn't worth the money.

Great features and super quiet [Posted on 2005-05-28]
Great because it prints in b/w or color. And has all extra features of copying faxing, reducing copies, etc. and is super quiet.

The only one on the market that is quiet which is good for a home or office environment.

HP Ahead in race to bottom [Posted on 2007-01-16]
This is by the worst HP product I've ever owned. I can wait until the cartidge run dry and I can scrap it. Noisy, slow, constantly jams. The process to replace ink has to be done all the time and involves a lot of hassle - alignment and scanning and so on. I've had it work right. Run from this one.

3 1/2 years of moderate satisfaction. [Posted on 2007-10-25]
I bought this product around April of 2004 which replaced my old Xerox all-in -one. Overall I have been satisfied. The 4110 has certainly lasted longer than the average unit of this price. The print quality is good, but not stellar by 2007's standards. The scanning feature is okay for text, but will prove problematic for photos since it has an ADF and not platen.

For basic home/office usage I would say the 4110 was an adequate machine for me. I just recently purchased a 5610 on sale since I upgraded my computer system to Windows Vista Basic. I'm told it will be compatible. Right now I'm just waiting for the cartridges to empty on my old 4110.

Out with the old, in with the new.
