OK for SOHO, but envelopes are a pain [Posted on 2004-07-05] This is not a professional level product, once you understand that you'll be fine. It's OK for SOHO. Scanning and faxing is one page at a time, so don't look for high productivity there. Fax Manager is useful, it does a good job at managing my faxing needs. A tighter link to MS Outlook would be nice. Print quality is OK for my needs. Printing envelopes is very difficult, I usually shred one or two for each successful result. Setup was easy, and I have not experienced the problems described by other reviewers. (I use XP and have no complaints about the printer handling.) Print speed is consistent with other inkjet systems.
Do not buy this under any circumstances. [Posted on 2005-02-16] The HP psc 950 is a totally useless pick of equipment. I would not recommend buying it or in fact any HP products until they get their service and customer support situation sorted out. This device worked fine for about the first six months and since then I have had nothing but problems with it. According to my web research many users are having similar issues. It seems that there is a problem with the temperature sensor on the scanner which causes it to malfunction (read; not work) when it is cold. HP wants to charge me $30 to tell me this which is totally unacceptable. If they had any sense they would recall the faulty sensor and let us all get back to work. I am at the stage now where I shopping for a new device. It will not be an HP and I very much look forward to kicking my 950 down the street.
950 turning into a sow's ear... [Posted on 2005-07-31] I've had HP products that worked for years and years....this was the flagship of their multifunction line when I bought it for a small office....the first year or 2 it worked great....but is progressively degrading into scrap....
It is cranky, at times not wanting to copy, other times flashing its "Busy" message...or 'warming up' for an hour or 2....
So it looks like I've got another wasted investment in HP stuff....I'm going to find something else
I would never recommend this thing, and I work for HP!! [Posted on 2006-03-14] It's been 3hrs now, and the thing is still "warming up" to make a copy. Buy a Canon Pixma MP780 and get your money's worth!
Excellent workhouse that prints beautifully [Posted on 2008-04-01] We've had the HP PSC950 Multi-Function for several years and it's still plugging along, doing a great job. It's been used as a dedicated printer and later on a wireless network without any problems in setup or use. We occasionally scan small products which we publish on a web site and it's served us well there. The menu is easy to follow when aligning cartridges after changing inks. We don't do a lot of volume printing, so it's hard to gauge ink consumption, but it doesn't seem excessive. Printing is fairly fast, footprint is small, and operation is quiet.
