Great for the price! [Posted on 2007-06-12] Just picked this up from my local store. Refurbished price: $399! Can't believe that I've spent the last 7 years with a 850mhz HP. This is a huge difference. Great performance, but as the other owner posted, you can always add more memory for even better speed.
Not impressed [Posted on 2007-06-22] This computer turned out to be a big headache. I have had it for six months and the hard drive has crashed twice. I continue to have problems. HP customer support is great the first time you call but after that they are unwilling to help. I can honestly say I will never buy a HP computer again.
It made me want a Mac even more! [Posted on 2007-12-15] It started out to be a pretty good computer, although I did have to return the one I originally bought because of a drive problem, so this is actually my 2nd one. It was fast, everything worked great and we were happy with it. My previous XP machine was terrible, and I was really unhappy with Windows. I was going to buy a Mac because I was tired of spending hours an even days trying to fix stupid little problem that every version of Windows always had, and Microsoft's "you'll have to deal with our problems until we get around to fixing it" attitude. I heard great things about Mac's from everyone that had one, everyone that had a windows based PC was miserable and frustrated or liked spending days fixing problems. I should have bought a Mac!! Like I said before, it started out great and then all of the same problems that I've had with every other Windows based computer came back. Updates wiped out my com ports so I couldn't access the Internet, deleted my sound card and video drivers and anti-virus programs. The tech support's solution was to roll back the computer to a date where everything was fine and block all updates from coming in. So now I still don't have sound and the computer is S-L-O-W. I can't download any updates to fix the other problems this computer has because the updates that I'm trying to block will wipe out the rest of this computer. The last HP tech I called about the sound issue wanted me to do a system restore (start from scratch and lose all of my saved info), I asked if the updates will just eventually come back and I will be in the same situation as I am in now, she said that it will more than likely happen again and if it does just keep doing the system restore until Microsoft fixes the problem. Needless to say I got rid of it (kept the Hard drive). Her last words were " HP can't help you with this problem at this time and you have 5 days left on your warrenty. Would you like to extend your warrenty for an additional $150.00?" after I said " hell no" she just hung up. Somethings just arn't wort the time and frustration to deal with. This machine made up my mind to be done with Windows once and for all. Stay away from this thing, Vista and anything to do with Microsoft or HP!
A Basic Machine [Posted on 2008-03-25] We purchased the computer about a year ago and have been very satisfied. Yes, you get what you pay for and it is very BASIC. Switching from XP to Vista was OK - actually, we like Vista more and more! We added RAM a few months ago and it runs everything much faster - of course. Overall, we are satisfied... though HP Help could be a little better. For an inexpensive computer, it does everything we purchased it for. No problems so far...
good computer for the money [Posted on 2008-05-26]
I really like it when I bought it. I also like the color silver on the computer. It runs great!! I would recommend anyone wanting a new computer and for a great price.
