HP Pavilion DV24Brand: Hewlett-Packard Binding: Personal Computers
Very pleased, Good Investment, Good Manufacturer [Posted on 2007-12-28] I have to say that thanks to this laptop I am now a true believer in HP products! All of my desktops have always been Dells, but this laptop has converted me to HP for life. The laptop has some wonderful features. My only complaint is that I need a full paper manual. All of the "manual" instructions are in the Help section on the computer, and sometimes I had trouble finding how to use some of the features. But eventually I found the instructions I needed. It's been a very reliable machine!
I'm not happy at all! [Posted on 2008-01-11] I'm not happy at all!
Ok. Long story short. In less then a week, after purchasing this, one of the slots where the screen opens and closes broke off. Tried to fix it, then, the DVD drive wouldn't work! I sent it back got my refund. I re-purchased the same computer laptop, Surprise surprise, dead pixels on the LCD screen. Returned it, was charged a restocking fee. Got another one. For no reason, one day the LCD just quit. Why did I attempt this three times? What was I thinking? Stay away from cheap, low prices pieces of garbage. It looked good. Under $700. 160 GB hard drive 1GB of ram, Dual layer DVD+/-RW drive upgradeable to 2. But, WARNING You get what you pay for, I guess.
Malfunctioning computer + Terrible customer support = Bad Purchase [Posted on 2008-01-11] I purchased two of this model of laptop about four months ago. Since then, they have malfunctioned in many different ways. The most significant problem is that the trackpad stopped working on one of them within about two months. That's when I started with the nightmare of HP Customer Service!
After a significant process, HP finally agreed to "repair" the notebook, which took nearly a month. When the computer was returned, the problem still existed. Now, when I talk to HP customer support, they tell me that I have to go through the exact same process again (install drivers, upgrade BIOS, reinstall Windows, etc), and then return the computer for repair again. When will they admit their mistake and simply replace the computer?
Complete waste of money [Posted on 2008-08-03] I bought this machine about a year and a half ago. Five months after I bought it, the fun began - and the only bright side to this story is that it happened under warrantee.
First, the DVD drive died. I sent it in, they repaired it, on top of a couple other repairs that they didn't report until after the fact (hard drive going bad, software corrupted). Two months later, the computer no longer booted due to a 'motherboard issue'. They held my computer for 5 weeks, pushing the expected repair date back twice. Finally they just sent me a new computer.
Five months later...the new notebook dies to the same 'motherboard issue'. They explained that it was possibly overheating; notebook wouldn't boot at all. Sent it in; another 4 weeks later I get it back. A month later, the motherboard dies AGAIN, only a little more spectacularly by corrupting the video. Sent it in AGAIN, and I filed a report to the BBB. I received an apology from HP regarding this claim, along with the statement that they were sending it back to me right away. I got my notebook a day later...and got the nice error 'Err1Err3' as soon as I tried to start it up.
I'm talking to one of their quality care specialists now, who is guiding me through the whole 'repair or replace' policy again...basically if it dies again, I'll get a new one. I also pushed for an extended warrantee since it's been in the bleeping shop almost as long as it's been in my house. But I've been told that the first two complaints don't count because even though it was the same purchase, it is a different product. I've been told that I can't get my money back on this overpriced paperweight because it's a repair warrantee, not a refund warrantee. I don't even know if they offer a refund warrantee, but maybe if they did, it'd make them a little more accountable for their products. I've had computers in my house for the last 14 years and I have NEVER had the problems that I've had with this model.
