Hot Product [Posted on 2007-11-14]
By "hot", I mean really hot. This computer is big not very well designed. It generates tremendous heat. It heated up so much and so often that eventually after a year of use, the motherboard was damaged. I purchased the best warranty I could buy, which HP lost and I had to fax in. I have called 6 times to fix this issue and each person is less knowledgeable than the last. They claim to have a new customer service computer system and they say they are not trained on it yet. Every time I call I have to go through the entire history of my problem from the very beginning to the present because their notes are bad or their computer is not working. Then I am transfered to someone else who wants me to start over and tell my story again. Strange.

Two hardware failures in the first 10 months. [Posted on 2008-01-12]
I've had the dv9000 for about 10 months. It is never moved or abused- it sits on our couch in front of the TV.

After 4 months, the power brick converter failed and the laptop couldn't charge. HP quickly sent me a replacement but we unable to use our laptop for about a week.

After 6 more months, the dv9000 suddenly refused to return from standby. The screen backlight comes on but no picture displays. I attached it to an external VGA monitor and I could see the display again but it was corrupted-- another hardware failure. HP sent me a box so I could send the unit back to them for repairs. I expect to be without the computer for at least 3 weeks. This machine is obviously engineered to last exactly the warranty period of 1 year and then crumble into a pile of ashes.

On a separate note, I also have an HP business notebook (nw8440) and it is built like a rock. Indestructible and very satisfying. I'd buy that one again in a heartbeat (though it costs about twice as much).

Worst laptop I ever own [Posted on 2008-01-15]
This is the worst nightmare I have.

I bought it from 06 thanksgiving special.

Found the microphone complete not working at all in Windows XP. Apparently the same system with Window Vista would work fine according some posting on the hp forum. So it is the software driver issues. But HP refuse to have any driver fix for it. There were multiple users complains on their forum for over a year.

The base of the screen has a big crack less a few weeks ago. Just a bit over the one year warranty. What a waste of Money!!!

I would never buy HP again!!!
