Works, but quirky [Posted on 2006-08-16] I've owned this laptop for about 5 weeks; bought directly from Amazon. About 4 weeks into owning it with regular use, a few of the keyboard keys stop responding, intermittently: the "Enter" key and a couple of others. Then a few days later, the problem went away... for now.
It comes with Win XP Media Center edition, which has caused some problems. Oddly enough, if you want to view DVDs in widescreen format, Windows Media Player doesn't do the trick. You have to use either the pre-installed "HP Quickplay" or "Media Center" software; neither of which is as user-friendly as Windows Media Player.
Also a note to those who don't own a TV, and think that buying this laptop will do the trick: it doesn't. It comes with a TV -tuner-, but unless you have a TV or TV antenna, it is of no use.
Personally, I wish I had looked at the Toshiba P105-S6084, which has the same specs (sans the "Lightscribe" feature, which isn't 'all that'), and is much cheaper. However, I'm sold on HP's durability and tech support, and don't have experience with Toshiba brands.
