Poor Customer Service [Posted on 2007-05-03] Purchased computer back in Feb 2007 From the first day computer malfunctioned
called H.P. customer support service. For the last 2.5 months this notebook has been in HP service center waiting for parts. Standard response from service center parts are not available and there is no ETA on when they will become available. You can draw your own conclusions of what I think of HP worldwide warranty. I realize that this is not a review of the product but does have a bearing on the after market support of this item.
Bad Battery [Posted on 2007-05-09] I have had nothing but problems with the battery used on this laptop. HP gave me the run around about it until I was no longer able to return it for a replacement.
runs hot, has a lot of extra programs on it [Posted on 2007-06-06] I actually like vista and the extra stuff that comes on this machine. Sure, some call it bloatware, but still. The thing doesn't come with disks, so the first thing you want to do is of course make restore disks with DVD-R (unless you like having 10 cdrom restore disks).
The thing only came configured with 64mb of shared graphics memory.. had to go into the bios and it would only max out to 128mb. Why it was set to 64 I'll never know as the machine seems to run a lot better now with the extra "graphics" memory.
This machine can play some games well, although don't expect to run doom 3 on this machine. I can play fate, though okay. DVD plays extremely well. I've played DVD's on other LCD screens and they had poor brightness or color contrast. But HP did a number on this screen. This is a really good multi-media center. Sound is okay. I suspect if you really want good sound you'll have to get some good quality earphones or sound system and connect it properly instead of using the build-in sound speakers. Sometimes I had a hard time hearing voices for certain videos for example. Also vista doesn't come witha built-in mixer, so you can only do so much for the sound.
Battery life sort of sucks - but since I don't plan to travel much with this pc, then this is okay for me. I don't consider this much of a travel notebook anyway due to it's bulkiness.
The touchpad is finicky, especially with the scroll bar on the side of the touchpad. I just got a usb mouse and now everything is fine. This machine also runs hot, so is a littlie unconfortable to use with the touchpad.
Overall I like this machine. Just wish it would play some modern games better. Oh well, I stick with my desktop for games I guess.
???????????? [Posted on 2008-06-24] ok here we go. This was my very first laptop and I have to say its been a bad year. I was asked at the time of purchase if I wanted to extend the Warranty. Thank god I said YES! Its only been a year and three out and its been out for service 3 times and going out again as soon as I receive a box in the mail. The first time it was an Issue with the built in web cam. I kept having to recover the software for it. Then it finally quit working and I sent it out for repair. Then I also sent it out because the blue tooth wouldnt work. I could only get online with the use of an e cable. Then to make matters worse the mother board had to be replaced two times in this time period. Im now sending it out because they repaced the casing and worked on the mother board again and the buttons for the volume dont work. The computer gets hot very fast. It feels like its on fire. I used an external fan at the time it blew out. All and all I love the laptop but I highly recommend not buying an HP. If you want a worry free laptop I dont think there is any brand I can recommend. I just think HP has way to many bugs and with Vista that dont help. I miss xp I really wish microsoft would go back to xp and forget about vista. I hope you find this helpful and good luck with purchasing a laptop.
