never buy hp [Posted on 2008-02-18] i have no words to say about this product. just never buy this product may be any product by hp.
Great 1st year, followed by nightmare [Posted on 2008-03-27] The laptop is sleek, light, fast and great looking.
But what good is all that if just after one year it will start to break down because of a design flaw that leads to overheating of the motherboard? To replace it, if you are out of the factory guarantee of one year (surprisingly convenient timing for HP), you will pay almost the price of a new computer. Which is worthless if you consider that it will be a matter of time before a new overheating.
Do not take my word for it. Google this product and expressions such as "will not start", "three beeps", "overheat", etc.
The two stars were given just because of the sweet memories of the first year of use. Now they will be only memories because I will never again buy an HP laptop.
A Piece of Junk [Posted on 2008-05-11] I purchased this laptop and have had a neverending stream of problems. This computer worked relatively well for about 5 months and then the problems began. The wireless internet connection stopped working as well as the dvd/cd drive so I sent it in - the problem was the motherboard, which HP replaced since I was still within the warranty. 2 months after the motherboard was replaced, my computer shut down on me and would not restart. I sent it in the HP again only to find out that the problem was the motherboard again. Not only did I find that ridiculous, HP said the motherboards were backordered, so I was without my computer for 2 months!!! I called multiple times and they did nothing to speed up the process or give me a new computer since the one I currently own (which is still less than 1 year old) is a pile of crap. I would never buy a Hewlett Packard computer ever again - it has been a nightmare.
Knock on wood [Posted on 2008-08-07] Looking at the other reviews I wonder what is different about my laptop. I have had it for 18 months with no problems. I use it constantly for work and internet. I am going to buy another HP laptop for my wife. The dv2000 is exactly what they stated.
Excellent Laptop, Excellent build quality. [Posted on 2008-08-08] To begin, I bought this through Office Depot for $549. The specs were slightly different (1.83 Duo Centrino, 3GB RAM, 250 GB HDD and N-wireless).
The problem I read about so much is overheating (in a laptop?! unheard of! xD). Mine came with an HP 12 cell battery, which helps ventilation and (obviously) boosts battery life. If you don't want to drop a $100 to save your $900 investment, buy a stinkin' laptop stand! There's a reason why most are designed to dissipate heat, so $20 isn't bad at all.
Now to get to the review:
The laptop is perfect! My only complaint is no gaming (at ALL with this integrated graphics). Aero Glass is really beautiful and has to be seen to appreciate. I can have several programs (Zune Store, uTorrent, AOL Desktop, all of which are pretty CPU heavy at times) running flawlessly, and the 1280x800 screen plays 720p videos very nicely and without fragments. The 14.1" screen is also just the right combination of portability and performance. Get a docking station if you feel it's necessary, but otherwise this is a perfect desktop day-to-day replacement.
*****- Perfect!
