Good Prize, Good Product, not so good customer services [Posted on 2007-03-08]
I am happy with the product, not so happy with seller's services, when I had a question I didn't get good response...

Jury approves, superb service [Posted on 2007-03-12]
I recently decided to obtain a laptop with a Microsoft operating system to run some programs that are unfortunately only compatible with Windows--including U.S.-made biofeedback software that runs with an Australian pocket, wireless amplifier.

I dislike Windows operating systems, as previous experiences with XP were disastrous. But I recently purchased a re-manufactured Pavilion DV5000, with an AMD chip set, and so far my experience with HP is mostly okay.

The 5.2 inch screen is large enough to actually see, and the system includes most bells and whistles one could wish for, including a 4-layer Cd-DVD drive, wireless networking (and traditional lan connections), a large hard drive, ample memory and even a telephone jack, presumably to send faxes and make conference calls.

Several weeks into the new windows experiment, my wireless card malfunctioned. The HP technical support was prompt and competent. However, after trying all software adjustments and resettings, the replacement part sent also failed to solve the problem, and the computer required servicing.

It's still in the shop; I'm betting (cynically, I admit) that HP will send the machine back with the problem still unresolved.

Another problem is the sound. It skips.

The graphics on this baby are great, the machine okay on speed. I also prefer the security mechanisms and software packages over those I received on a Dell machine, the last time I tried Windows, more than 2 years ago.

I don't like the keyboard, which is too sticky. I prefer a clean, quiet soft touch keyboard. But I can live with it.

And the finger-touch mouse pad is unwieldy--a prescription for repetitive stress syndrome, if you don't already have it. One must hold an arm aloft to negotiate the thing, and since this is designed for one's lap, that's without the potential for wrist support of any kind. Also, the serial connector on a standard issue mouse is incompatible with the mouse port here, a real bummer.

But I paid little more than $500, with shipping and a 90 day HP warranty included. If HP successfully (and enduringly) mends my wireless problem, I'll update further.

Overall, this is serviceable, but the jury is still out.

Follow-up, April 5, 2007: HP returned the repaired machine, complete with a new motherboard, within a week of my request for repairs under the warranty. The machine has worked extremely well since then.

The computer came in an as-new state. But a problem occurred with Windows XP Media Center. I re-installed XP Professional, new drivers and all other software and the system is functioning perefectly.

HP Pavilion dv5020us 15.4" Notebook PC [Posted on 2007-06-09]
The computer has worked great. Very clear screen. The only problem has been all the temporary games that were on it. I would prefer not to get temporary games.

SUPER AWESOME! [Posted on 2007-08-06]
