I use this machine in a home recording studion as well as to record live concerts. It is extremely powerful and has been perfect for my needs. The screen is very bright and the graphics are truly top of the line. It has a ton of very useful features and comes loaded with a full boat of software to take advantage of everything.
On the downside, my left speaker quit working the second day I had it (altec lansings), the machine has an anoying rattle from one of the latches and the key board is very hard to get used to. The keyboard is very light and provides minimal tactile feedback.

Product was shipped to me broken, had to ship to HP within 24 hours of receiving product. Was mislead about it being new computer, when in fact it was a refurbished computer. Company returns e-mails in timely manner. Was compensated for being over charged.

I love this computer. I'm a geek, so I needed something with a little size and power. This little lap top fits the bill, although finding a case for it's a challenge... but having the full keyboard and numeric pad are worth it. I'd have given it 5 stars, but I specifically ordered it because the advertisement about it said it came with XP on it. My other 3 computers all have XP. I felt it was a little dishonest for them to say it came with XP then switch it on me.
I've had no real problems with Vista, other than it was a little picky about networking with other computers running XP... and it's a VERY different interface. But not hard to pick up if you're familiar with Windows.
Otherwise, I think it's probably the best I've ever seen or owned.
HPdv9060us 17" Rocks! [Posted on 2007-12-14]
I exchanged the HPdv9040us 17" because it came with Vista Operating System. Upgaded to the HPdv9060us 17" HDDVD+TV Tuner, w/XP OS through Express Solutions_Amazon. This refurb rocks...had a problem detecting my wifi and Express Solutions Tech Support walked me through, Great Support! This unit basically has the same features as the HPdv9040, except it is upgaded with a TV Tuner, HDDVD Drive (also burns DVD-R/DVD+R) and has HiDef. This machine is bad-to-the-bone and you save big $$$ purchasing from Express Solutions_Amazon. This unit is also Vista compatible, should MS ever fix the bugs. Would recommend purchasing the Belkin 17-in Messenger Bag & the new Belkin Laptop Cooling Fan (model #F5L001). Belkin keeps your unit looking good and cool during operation.

Machine used at work. Great Computer. It is extremely powerful and is almost perfect for my needs. The screen and the graphics are truly top of the line. On the downside, The funtion keys letter size are very small. The left side of the Keyboard get very hot when on.
