Recommend a no buy [Posted on 2007-01-11] I bought one for my daughter and advised a friend to buy one. The one I bought failed after 4 uses. My daughter, after contacting customer support, was told to await a new power cord. They send the wrong cord, and after another week they sent a proper cord. She has not extensively used it but has reported no problems. However, my friend is so disgusted with his, he will not use it until I visit him and work out the usage protocol. The handbook and help screen are pratically useless. The scanner assumes that photos are the prime usage purpose. I have spend over 5 hours of time in getting it to work sporadically. On the other hand my old HP scanner had no handbook but a good help screen. Maybe my 2o years of computer knowledge is insufficient. Therefore, I recommend a no buy.
HP Scanjet 4370 [Posted on 2007-01-19] I found this scanner to be quite fast and efficient; I'm very satisfied with it.
Great for the price [Posted on 2007-03-10] The only thing I don't like about it, is the scanning area is upside down where most scanners you open the lid and put your photo or document close to you this scanner you have to put it all the way to the back of the scanner so you have to open the lid all the way. Also the film tray shows on some of my documents as well you would think they would give you something to cover the film tray when not in use. I did like the way XP found this scanner right away with no disks or software. I have a cannon scanner I just got a few months ago but it is limited because it is not compatible with XP with out cannons software, The cannon was so bad that I purchased this one all in all I like it does a great job glad they still make just scanners for people who use laser printers.
HP Scanjet 4370 Photo Scanner [Posted on 2007-03-29] For my purposes, general scanning and copying photos, this seems to be just fine. So far, have had no problems.
It could have been perfect [Posted on 2007-09-09] Initially I liked this scanner a lot, as it allowed me to scan negative and slides as well as photographs. Overall it seemed like a great buy. But then, just three months into ownership, dust started collecting on the underside of the scanning glass, and it just got worse over the next six months. I finally contacted Hewlett Packard and they assured me (in a form letter) that dust on the bottom of the glass would not affect the scanned images. Duh! Why had I written them in the first place! The problem with this machine is that there is absolutely no way to clean the bottom of the glass without taking the entire device apart: Hewlett Packard recommends having it professionally cleaned which, I assume, would cost half as much as the scanner is worth. This could have been a perfect scanner, but design flaws have reduced the thing basically to junk status in less than a year. I might add that I know of another HP Scanjet 4370 owner whose system has been compromised by the scanner software, as other reviewers have noted. Fortunately, mine did OK with the software, but if I could do it all over again I would have bought a different scanner.
