One should try this [Posted on 2004-04-27] I received iPaq as a birthday gift from my fiance.I know quite well about electronics. My initial impression was Wow.. The Display/Graphics is extremely pleasing.Navigation is very simple..so any starter who is not very techno savvy can operate this PC with ease.Since the operating system is Windows CE,its very simple to browse thru(as many are familiar with Windows GUI).The best feature ofcourse is Outlook Syncup (must for all Pocket PCs ofcourse) but its easy and quick. The software installation is not too difficult either. The sound quality is good and works great with a Secure Digital card as well. Now for a few Cons, The conventional "CROSS" at Top,right hand corner doesnot stand for "Closing" of the program but it means "Minimising" the screen. That leaves your program still running in Backgroud. So even if the display shows your "desktop" (Today screen) there are functions running in backgroud...This will make your PC freeze often if many programs are running. This PC freezes very often and I have to reset it then. If it freezes real bad then you will have to Hard reset it which means your data is lost. So I would suggest that "Stop" all the running programs at certain intervals..You have that option in "Settings". But overall I am very happy with the performance... I would advise one to buy it.
Hardware Problems [Posted on 2005-03-17] At first this worked great. Then I started experiencing image problems on the screen. Finally after a little more than a year, the iPAQ stopped working. I was in the middle of updating something when the screen went black and wouldn't change. I charged it although it was fully charged, and then it wouldn't turn off. Still, nothing on screen. Overall, I'm very disappointed. My next handheld will not be an HP.
good, if you don't need much space [Posted on 2005-10-25] I bougth it about 2 and a half years ago, works great, the software CD needs a new version of the sync sofware, and you can download it from the microsoft home page.
Ater two years of having it, it's still working good, probably you are going to need to buy a SD card, the memory builted in is too small, if you load a game or music, it's not going to run, and if you load a big text, is going to stop running.
I am giving it 4 stars cause mine never have fail, I really use it a lot, and not 5 stars for the missing memory space.
using a 64MB SD card it's going to work exellent, but depending if you listen to much music it's going to be needed more memory space and you need a bigger SD card.
Good product, but not for long [Posted on 2005-12-16] I bought this a while ago and loved it. Then once the warranty expired it went on the fritz. The unit freezes with the backlight on. Once this happens it can't be turned off unless the battery is removed. This causes it to rest and all information is lost. I would not recomend this product.
Amazing Product [Posted on 2006-01-16] I've had the Ipaq 1910 for over 18 months and use it every day. It's been dependable, reliable and more than I could have asked for. The SD slot and removable batteries makes it more than flexible. A few extra batteries (cheap anywhere) gives one as much time as needed and the SD cards (also cheap) allow for the carrying of an infinate amount of data.
I use it to read E-books, play MP's (the headphone jack isn't standard but adapters are avaliable), keep my calendat and my contacts. It easily connects with Windows XP. Microsoft has had a bit more success with its newer versions of Activesync. The pocket word and excel programs are handy. It fits neatly in my back pocket with the use of a metal case. Newer models allow internet and E-mail access. If that isn't necessary - then the 1910 is the best considering its cost, size and durability.
All in all it is a great product and one of those things that, from time to time, remind us of how many truly remarkable products have become avaliable in the past 10 years. I cringe at the price I paid for a less powerful desktop merely 10 or 15 years ago.
