Awesome! [Posted on 2005-12-10] I bought this as a multiroom multi device remote control after I accidentally broke my Sony Remote commander. It does many functions well. Really too many features to elaborate here.
You have to learn your PDA first... [Posted on 2006-01-27] Basically I got the same problem as Frank did and I suspect we are not alone here. One day the screen started freezing on me right at the end of the booting sequence and software reset did not help. I thought something had burned out inside and prepared to send it back for warranty repair. However after short talk to HP tech support it turned out that special hardware reset (two buttons and one pin, you can find it in product support section at www.hp.com) perfectly solves this problem at the unfortunate price of losing everything stored in the memory. I have worked out a good habit to back up memory regularly so it took me 5 minutes to recover. Regarding the searches of more reliable device I have one question: Are you always changing your desktop computer when Windows freezes on you? PDA is just another computer with Windows on it, so be prepared for unexpected particularly when you feed your little buddy with uncertified software. The camera on this device did not meet my expectations. I need sharp pictures of text. I am too lazy for re-typing info from different text sources and prefer taking a picture of them, but most of my pictures turns out to be unreadable. (Maybe I am a lousy picture taker, but this device does not work for me anyway). In spite of all the above I like this device. MP3s sound great. Outdoor pictures turns out good. Movies play smooth and nice. Mike is acceptable for speech recording. Battery life is unmatched as long as you do not turn on wireless. What else do you expect from small multimedia PDA? I would buy it again, especially if it were half-price:)
not for everybody, but it does have a lot for the $ [Posted on 2006-03-03] My attraction to the RX 3715 is the bundle of features it contains, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, reasonable memory with a 1 GB SD card, and the little digital camera. If you are looking for more speed, this is not for you. But, if you want a multi-package, it is.
Icing on the cake is the Nevo feature that allows you to use it as a remote control on devices around the house (or elsewhere).
finally got it, and love it [Posted on 2006-03-08] I used to have RX3115, but I took the LCD out to replace the cracked LCD on HX2415
frankly, I like RX3115 better
I wanted RX3715 once, but the price just draw me back; once I have enough money, it's discontinued, all I found online are either used or recycled
luckily, I found one when I traveled in Hong Kong (Chinese version)
used it, and like it pretty well
the LCD is EXACTLY same as other QVGA RX and HX series, I put Brando on for screen protection
d-pad is pretty comfortable to press, but the application buttons are a little bit hard to press because they're small
the most impressing thing is battery time, I can get 10 hours+ mp3 playback with LCD off, 3.5 hours when playing music from file server through wifi/LAN, almost 8 hours of internet radio (WMP with LCD off) through bt
CPU is OK, but not good enough to watch videos with tcpmp
it has 60MB of free ROM (since it's Chinese version, the free ROM is fewer), I read about ROM lockup issue, and I don't encounter the problem (yet, but there's ROM change trick can fix)
also, you can add A2DP support (the software can be found at HP taiwan site), but it makes the system a lot slower when A2DP is active
the internal cam is not good, it's fine outdoors, but it's blur indoors, worse than some 1.3mpx cam phones (I don't need the cam anyways)
conclusion: this is the best ipaq I ever owned, though it don't have CF support, 4GB SD is getting cheap now; you should backup, format, restore the internal ROM every month to make it work properly, of course, you need to backup the entire system every month, or before/after you install/installed application, or added new contacts and/or settings
