Decent in its own way [Posted on 2008-02-08] It's hard to say if this game is really good or really bad. If you know a lot about boxing you might consider it a poor represenation of reality, but it can be a lot of fun as well. There are a lot of aspects to the game, but the fighting is what you're going to pay attention to. Using directional keys, spacebar, and your mouse, your mission is to render your opponent unconscious without receiving the same treatment.
Using your mouse to throw punches makes this really unique, hard, and fun all at once. It took me a while to get the technique down, but once you get the timing and movements right, you can inflict damage on your opponent and get out of the way, looking like a real pro. It gets frustrating until that point though, and I reccomend using the trainer that is available for download so you can get the hang of things.
Going through a career you have to manage your money, buy assorted things that you need, and spend enough time training to keep your stats up. It can be quite the challenge, especially in the early days when you don't earn a lot of money but need just a little more worldly goods to land the next fight (most opponents have requirements to fight you).
The graphics aren't meant to be realistic, so they are tolerable. When both fighters punch at once, however, you often see someone's fist literally going through the other guy, yet inflicting no damage because it was just a little too late - timing is very important in boxing. Part of the advertisement, however, is that you get to rearrange faces. Sadly there is no damage shown throughout the fight, even after a terrific beating the guys just look the same.
Since it's cheap it might be worth picking up if you like boxing and can handle the RPG part. Otherwise you probably won't even bother looking at this page.
