We got the hello kitty dvd/tv combo for our 2 1/2 year old daughter for christmas. She absolutely loves that she can watch her movies on "her" tv. I think it's the cutest thing ever, with the little kitties on the screen when you change the volume or the tv settings. I was apprehensive when I read the other reviews regarding it not being able to play dvds-- and very shortly after we started using it, our daughter took the liberty of trying to change a dvd and she got the piece that holds the dvds a little off track/out of place. I thought great, she ruined it already! My husband looked at it and it was just simply getting it back in the correct position, and we have not had a problem since-- I made it very clear to my little one that she is not to touch or change the dvds or she will break it, and i make sure i am available to help her if she needs or wants to change dvds. Since she uses it pretty much every day, I'd have to say this was the best present she's gotten in a long time! We are very pleased with our purchase!
Beautiful, but poorly constructed [Posted on 2008-03-17]
I love how beautiful this product is...It really looks amazing in my daughters room. I am not impressed with the quality of the product. The DVD cover was off before I even took it out of the box. When her DVDs play it sounds like an engine revving up...the keys on the remote are ridiculously small and it took forever to open the battery compartment due to the small screw. This product means well but would benefit form a more quiet operation and better development.
MAJOR LET DOWN, TROUBLE FROM THE START [Posted on 2008-04-16]
WE BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT AS A BIRTHDAY PRESENT FOR OUR LITTLE GIRL. AFTER ONE WEEK, IT WENT TO A COMPLETELY BLACK AND WHITE PICTURES, ON WEEK TWO, THE DVD PLAYER STOPPED WORKING. WE PAID 50 BUCKS TO SEND IT BACK FOR A REPLACEMENT, THEY DIDN'T SEND OUR REMOTE BACK AND NOW ON THE SECOND TV, THE DVD PLAYER WON'T OPEN AND CLOSE, SO THE SAME MOVIE HAS BE STUCK IN THE TV FOR A WHILE. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY TO SEND THE DUMB THING BACK ONCE AGAIN! MAJOR DISSAPOINTMENT. SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE MORE EXPENSIVE DISNEY TV.
7 year old daughter was heartbroken [Posted on 2008-04-21]
My daughter loves all things Hello Kitty and when she wanted a television for her newly decorated bedroom, she fell in love with the Hello Kitty TV/DVD combo at first site. Her smile upon seeing it in her bedroom lasted for about three months. She initially used it for watching the television, but as soon as she attempted to use the DVD, things began to go from smiles to tears. It became evident very quickly that this was a VERY poorly made product. After searching and finding other reviews, that belief was verified. The DVD player began to make noises after only about the third or fourth usage and from there, the picture began to freeze and stop, until finally, the DVD player died all together. We returned the item only to have the same results after the same amount of product usage. I would definitely not recommend this product to anyone. I had assumed that the Hello Kitty company would have put a little more quality or pride into something with their name on it, but this product is far from a quality piece of merchandise.
Caveat Emptor [Posted on 2008-06-10]
We bought this for our daughter. The dvd player worked for less than a week. Fortunately (?) the seller took the item back and sent another. It lasted about one month. Obviously the dvd electronics in this system are substandard. Everything works excepting the dvd. Also the set we bought in 2007 will not be compatible with local channels. This was known by the manufacturer before the sets were produced and I don't understand why they did not use digital tuners. My daughter loves the way the set looks but it's not worth the hassle.
