Don't use refills or generics [Posted on 2007-10-18] Let's face it, ink is expensive. After all, it's how the printer companies actually make money. BUT, don't be tempted by generics or worse, the mall kiosks who offer to refill your cartridges for pennies on the dollar.
First, using anything other than the brand name originals will void your warranty, plain and simple. Second, generics often come with less ink and refills are often "watered down" so they don't last as long. Third, generics and refills have a higher chance of leaking and if they do you'll be buying a new printer thanks to your $10 savings- remember, you voided your warranty!
HP makes some pretty good printers and if you stick to HP ink, you will likely have a much happier printing life.
be careful [Posted on 2008-03-13] Purchased this item directly from Amazon in mid March. Upon it's arrival, the expiration date is april 08!! I also purchased other ink cartridges from third parties supported by Amazon. They all expire at least one year from purchase date. There is a way to rate your experience with third parties. I wish Amazon had a way to rate themselves and leave suggestions for their own company. (maybe there is and I am unaware)
Watch out for older cartridges [Posted on 2008-05-04] I purchased these in April 2008 and they have a "Must be used within 6 months of April 2008 for warranty to apply" date on them.
My local retailer has the same cartridges with "January 2009" as the date.
I thought I was being proactive by buying extra cartridges and but I doubt I will use these in 6 months.
Next time I purchase a product with a limited shelf life I think I will stick with a local retailer so I know that I am getting a newer product.
Amazon - If are reading the reviews... For products with a limited shelf life figure out a way to let your customers know this ahead of time. Also consider discounting products that are nearing the end of their shelf lives. Otherwise you won't be able to compete with local retailers.
