The Pros and Cons of High School Advantage 2008 [Posted on 2008-06-12]
High School Advantage 2008 is a highly unique and educational software for any high schooler. It helps me review for major tests such as AP Exams and the SAT, and the graphics and sounds are outstanding. I will divide this review into the pros, cons, and the final verdict.
PROS
1-Excellent graphics in Human 3D(Biology) and Homeworkhelp's Chemistry and Physics.
2-Interactive Multimedia Lessons in Mathematics(Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry)
3-The Microeconomics Program, Beat the Market, is dynamically stimulating and helps you see the impact of changing economic conditions overtime.
4-The Foreign Language flashcards are a great and unique way to review Spanish, French, German, and Italian. There are flashcards on greetings, dining out, clothing, numbers, and much more.
5-The typing program is Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing. It shows proper keyboard techniques, has practice tests, games, and tips and techniques. You can also custom design your lessons to fit your needs.
6- The History and U.S. Government program are detailed and very concise.
CONS
1-Each program has to be downloaded individually, and that can take a long time.
2- The SAT and ACT Assessment don't offer anytime of help with the tests. All it offers is practice tests.
3- The student planner is extremely dull.
4-The music, ringtones, and games can't be downloaded.
5-You need to enter a password(for me it was magicword) each time you use the biology program.
6-This program doesn't offer Calculus, one of the most dreaded and difficult classes in high school.
7- The layout of the economics program is confusing.
FINAL VERDICT:
This is a great program to be used by ninth, tenth, and eleventh graders. The programs are fun yet challenging, and have quizzes with answer explanations at the end. Be aware, it doesn't cover biology other than the human body and there is nothing on english grammer and vocabulary.
