Customer Reviews:

out of date [Posted on 2008-02-10]
i mistakenly chose a tax-cut product that was out of date-it was listed with the 2007 tax-cut programs. when i returned this item i was charged for freight whic is fine it was my mistake, but i was charged $30.00 re-stocking fee on a $59.95 purchase that was out of date and should not have been offered for sale. this is 2007 tax time-frame not 2006. thoroughly disgusted with AMAZON for this type of response. will endeavor to find another source for purchases!!!

I can't believe that you'd sell this [Posted on 2008-02-13]
In December 2007 I bought this assuming that it was for the current tax year. When I got it I realized it was for the previous tax season and returned it. Why would this still be for sale on the website, especially at full price. Ridiculous.

Federal fine but state won't efile [Posted on 2008-02-16]
Bought the Federal + State + Efile and everything worked great until I tried to file my state return. I repeatedly received error messages and called Customer Service who couldn't explain the error and would not give me a refund for my state efile charges.

If you file from a MAC forget TaxCut this year! [Posted on 2008-02-25]
Well, I guess it had to happen eventually. This product is a total and complete failure on the Mac side. Not only did I have to wait 2 weeks for the state version to become available, but when I tried to file, there appears to be a software glitch and the system won't allow me to efile, it just boots me back to the efile main screen. I called customer service 3 times so far and each and every one of them was absolutely horrible. One even started arguing with me when I had to explain to him how his own product worked! Anybody ever seen the documentary "India Calling"? I will NEVER use one of their products again...ever.

It was OK. [Posted on 2008-03-25]
I have used TurboTax for several years, but most recently used a CPA. I went back to software because the CPA didn't do anything that TurboTax didn't do, and the CPA was just as much work.

However, I was attracted to TaxCut because of the "worry-free audit support" and free tax advisor session in the event that I ran into problems. TaxCut's low price for the bundle of features (Federal, State, e-file) that I needed was a bonus. It seemed to be a reasonable middle-ground between the CPA and TurboTax from years prior.

After using TaxCut, I do prefer TurboTax. Importation of Quicken data failed, making entry of charitible contributions and capital gains a challenge. Like other reviewers, I was unable to e-file a partial year State return, even though the State's own website supports e-filing of this document.

In the end, though, my experience with TaxCut was almost as good as TurboTax, and TaxCut did cost significantly less for the features. Although I cannot comment on the "ask a tax advisor" feature as I never used it, although it was nice to see it readily available on every screen. So, though I prefer TurboTax, I may well return to TaxCut next year. It depends on how complicated my stock and mutual fund sales look.
