Mac compatibility problem [Posted on 2004-09-16]
After I installed this card in a Mac G4 running OSX 10.3.5 the computer would no longer sleep. If put to sleep, the machine immediately woke up again. After the card was removed, the computer again operated normally.

In response to an email query, IOGear sent me the following reply: "Thank you for contacting us. Your problem is an Apple related issue in which some Macs will read the card as an active source of information, even if the card is not in use and can prevent the computer from going to sleep. Sometimes installing the card in another PCI slot solves the problem, otherwise, I would recommend you return the card to your place of purchase. I apologize for any inconvenience."

I followed IOGear's advice, and tried the card in each of the computer's four PCI slots. The problem wasn't solved, and I subsequently returned the card to Amazon for a refund.

This card works as advertised, in Macs and PC's [Posted on 2006-04-18]
I bought this card to test as part of a review of FW800 External drives. In three different Windows XP and 2000 computers (one home built ASUS/AMD 64-bit 3200, one HP and one Gateway) this card worked flawlessly.

It was also tried in one G4 Mirror Door Dual 1.25GHz and one G5 Dual 2.3 Power Mac. No problems at all with the G5 but the G4 would not "sleep", BUT IOGear is right, once again Apple's flawed designs in the G4's see MANY "add-on" PCI cards as being "active" when in fact they are doing nothing.

If you had to put up with all the flaws in Macs over the years, prohibiting what you could add to a Mac and have it work perfectly ... you'd never be able to add any aftermarket devices from any reputable manufacturer.

The price of this card is very fair and the quality is very good. IOGear Customer/Tech Support is sketchy at times though.

Awesome PCI card for MAC [Posted on 2006-07-25]
I got this for my G5 2.0 Ghz Powermac and it works great. Just pluged it in and no drivers to install and it worked perfect. I bet if i put this in a windows machine it would have taken me over 40 hours to install the correct driver, until MS comes out with a new secruity package. So then after that happens I would spend 40 more hours installing updated drivers. Yes that was a rant about windows. Great device, came with cool cable as well that I didn't know about. 400plug to 800plug.

works as advertised [Posted on 2006-11-05]
Quick and simple installation, hooked up to maxtor OneTouch II without any problems. I had the maxtor installed using USB2 before I went to firewire. As far as I can tell (no quantitative studies done) the firewire setup is as fast (maybe faster) than the USB2 setup (and more importantly, I know have one more free USB2 port for other uses).
