Not Awesome; Not Terrible [Posted on 2007-02-12]
There aren't many readers out there that deal with the Memory Stick Pro Duo, and this one is quite acceptable. I bought two for us to use, primarily for their compact size (considerably smaller than its closest competitor, although that one reads more kinds of cards).
I like how firmly the cap snaps on, keeping me from losing it somewhere, but buyers should be aware that its key ring attachment area will require fortification if they intend to use that feature. We actually superglued a new loop that we sawed off from a bottle-opener key ring onto this case after one unit gave out, and it was such a solid fix that we did it to the other one before it broke. Seeing as the first unit belongs to a fidgeter, he also managed to damage a hinge on the door, but this responded to superglue as well.
These limitations aside, it transfers data as fast as I've ever needed, and I've never had a problem with it functioning or being recognized or anything.
OVERALL:
It's small, it's as attractive as I think I'm able to demand, it does what I need it to do, but it does have some fragility about it. Nothing that would interfere with its functions, but somewhat annoying.

This product works as advertised, but the construction, design and materials of the plastic housing are inadequate. Mine broke during the first week by merely opening the hinged door to the memory stick area.
The plastic used to manufacture the housing is extremely brittle. Moreover, the hinges are made of the same plastic and are durable for only a few openings.
Don't buy this product!

I use two of these devices in conjunction with my SonyEricsson k750i cell phone. It holds a MemoryStickProDuo chip for picture/mp3/flashdrive/etc. memory. I keep one in the car and one in the travel kit. [ I have USB cradles for the phone at home and work for everyday use. ] So, if I load files on the phone (say powerpoint slides) for travel, if I need to, rather than traveling with a USB cable, I can pop the chip out and into this gizmo and I am good to go for accessing them on any machine. Other reviewers talk of poor durability, that the plastic breaks. Maybe, but I don't use it on a day-to-day basis, only a few times as described above. It beats having to plan on, carrying, etc. a USB cable where I am not likely to, or often, need one. So far, mine have not broken and work fine - though I can see where, if you were popping the lid off day-in-day out constantly to insert/remove the chip, that it might break. I've noticed that JR stopped carrying it and that the pdf manual has been deleted from the IOGEAR website, so if you think you might need it, you better grab one soon.

The other reviews here describe the reader accurately. I thought I might add the results of a simple speed test. I tested the reader with the SanDisk 8GB Ultra II Memory Stick PRO Duo, also sold here on Amazon, and results are:
Reading: between 13 and 15 MB/s.
Writing: between 9.2 and 9.7 MB/s.
Average Access Time (using HD Tune 2.55): 2.1 ms.
