Exactly what I wanted! [Posted on 2008-03-15] After reading several reviews on many different portable drives, I decided to buy this one. It has turned out ot be a very wise decision. I wanted something small and light that needed no power adapter. It had to be user friendly and able to store whatever I wanted to put on it. This thing is just as easy to use as a flash drive and works very well using the usb cable. I haven't tried the firewire yet. I also use this as a privacy drive by using Folderlock software. In my opinion, this portable hard drive is well worth the money. I would buy again in a heartbeat!
Great portable for mac [Posted on 2008-04-04] I own a powerbook G4 and this little drive was powered and worked very well with the fire wire. I am very pleased with the size and look of this device as it complements the computers look as well. I would definitely recommend this product.
Iomega drive fails [Posted on 2008-05-28] I purchased the 120GB Silver external drive to back up my laptop hard drive. The first unit copied the lap top drive but then would not mount on any of my computers. I sent it back to Iomega and they sent me a refurbished replacement. I tried to back up the lap top drive again but part way through the Iomega drive quit and would no longer mount on my computers. They want to replace it again and will not refund my money.I have bought my last Iomega product.
Convenient package, bad first impression [Posted on 2008-06-08] I own a MacBook and use 10.5. I bought this hard drive because I have a friend that needed the simplest backup solution possible. This meant not purchasing a 3.5 enclosure that had a power brick. The beauty of this drive is that it can be powered by Firewire or USB. The MacBook doesn't supply enough power over USB to power it, so you'll have to use Firewire.
Another upside was it's small compact size and it's design was pretty pleasing too; it's conservative, but the silver enclosure works well.
Now onto the cons. Bad, bad first impression. I open the package and hook it up through USB (there were no instructions) and it starts beeping like R2D2 on speed. I decide, since it wasn't mounting, that USB wasn't the right interface. So I use Firewire. It doesn't mount at first; it doesn't even show up on the Firewire bus. So I unplug it and replug it in. Then it shows up on the Firewire bus, but doesn't mount. So I unplug it and replug it in. This time it mounts. Not exactly comforting. But I tried it again and it mounted. Shrug.
All in all, a good package for the money. If you're not put off by a bad first date...this one might be a keeper.
fine hard disk, but you need 2 USB to power it (or just one firewire) [Posted on 2008-06-12] Also it gets much hotter than the iomega eGo 160 Gb (may be it is just the rpm difference, still a big difference in heating). I think it is okay for the price (~USD80).
