Great game! [Posted on 2008-03-26] My daughter who is almost four, absolutely loves this game. It can get a bit pricey, so beware of that. Especially if your child goes through the game quickly. I had no problem canceling my subscription. I emailed them from the website and they canceled it the same day, no questions asked. Of course I had to resubscribe because my daughter was so heartbroken. We've introduced her to alot of computer games, but this game is by the far the one she has played the most and enjoyed. I love the learning aspect of it as well, not just pointless running around. I highly recommend it if you don't mind the price after all the updates. I only gave it 4 stars because of the price.
My 3 1/2 year old loves this! [Posted on 2008-04-23] First the good side: My 3 1/2 year old loves this game. It engages him for a very long time. I do usually have to sit with him to work through the lessons but he loves being rewarded by earning gems and badges. He does navigate the program on his own using the mouse and arrow keys. He didn't even know how to "point and click" with a mouse before I got this program. It also teaches him how to follow directions. You do have to listen to directions carefully. It really is a great learning tool.
The bad side: As mentioned in previous reviews there are only 2 units given with the purchase of the program. If you want to "unlock" the remaining 10 units it's a 7.99 charge per unit. My son plays this so much that he's already unlocked up through unit 8 this month already. So, my credit card has been charged with over $60 this month. I don't love that but he is learning and loves this game that I'm not going to complain too much.
Customer Service/Technical help: I only had to email them one time for technical help regarding the game and some instructions it was giving the neither me or my son could figure out. I got an email back within 24 hours and it was informative. We figured out what we needed to do.
All in all, I would recommend this game. If your child is younger, like mine, be prepared to spend time at the computer with your child.
Good teaching material, but awfully buggy software [Posted on 2008-05-16] My 3-year old likes to play with this software. I think its educational contents are great. Unfortunately, it is full of bugs that stop it from running. I have to reinstall it every 2 weeks.
My daughter loved it! [Posted on 2008-06-02] My daughter absolutely loved this game. She just turned 5 in April & couldn't get enough of this game. It helped her w/her reading & math. I couldn't be happier with this product.
3 1/2 Year Old Daughter and Dad VERY Impressed! [Posted on 2008-06-09] My 3 1/2 year old daughter has been on the computer since age 18 months. She is very skilled with the mouse, but hasn't had much opportunity to use a keyboard. This game requires primarily keyboard, (using arrow keys and space bar), to navigate and interact with the characters...and the mouse to activate various featues and to play some games. After about an hour she was able to move around the 3-D interactive world very well and she quickly began to recognize that when the mouse symbol appeared that she could activate a feature using the mouse.
We have purchased about 25 computer games from her over the past several years, but none come close to the clever interaction that has been interwoven into this program. There is a wonderful mixture of exploration, fun, and learning...not to mention delightful surprise.
Though we have only worked through the first level, the game offerings were excellent for her. She was able to perform 80% of the games solo, (with parent sit-by), and the rest of the games I had to perform with her, but I was able to ask her questions and prompt her for the correct response.
My daughter loves this game so much that I have to limit use. Prior, I had a 30 minute rule and then we would have to read books, play, paint, etc. However, I have allowed her to play this game for 1 hour the past 2 weeks...though I am starting to cut back to the original 30. The reason I am fudging on my own rule is because she enjoys both the 3D environment and the lessons/games equally. So, she is spending a lot of time playing certain sorting, alphabet, and counting games over and over.
I haven't had to start shelling bucks out yet for additional adventure packs, but I will have no problem investing particularly when I look at the stack of old CD's I have purchased for her...some for a premium...with little true learning/benefit.
I would recommend this highly, but as a previous parent said, you should always be available to your child as they play the game...and for little ones like my daughter, you might as well camp out...but it's worth it!
