OK, It's actually pretty fun [Posted on 2002-01-03] Well, I have to amend my 2-star review of this game. It's pretty much got me hooked, and I have a fun time with it. The developers have made a few changes to the game that perk it up a bit, and the game is deep enough to where you can grow into it. The only remaining problem I have with the game is that it does take a while to figure out how to really enjoy it. When you first start out running transport or mining missions it can be a bit tedious. The solution I found to this is to occasionally enter the "simulator" mode and get some heated PVP combat practice. Joining an active squad is also quite helpful to game enjoyment. The game continues to be actively developed, so it continues to grow and improve. If you give it a chance, this one's a winner!
Do not buy this unless you are prepared to pay the server [Posted on 2002-01-26] This game requires the player to pay a monthly fee to the server. The game can only be played in multiplayer on the server. Unless you are willing to pay monthly; do not purchase this silly game...
This game ROCKS!! [Posted on 2002-10-01] I have been playing JumpGate for over a year now and I must say that the game has yet to get old. It has to be the best money I've spent on a PC game yet. The Graphics are great, the sim is so real you feel like your realy there. The best part of all is the people that play it. Some players like to RP(Role Play) their charater while others are just themselfs. This gams is just to great to discribe...
Hold Up Without A Gun [Posted on 2003-05-26] This game is frustrating because when you purchase it it seems like a good buy but the actual truth is that you can only play it multiplayer online and, when you decide to get online to play, first you have to pay a registration fee and then a monthly usage fee and not to mention for the time on the internet through your local internet provider. Overall it is a bad program design UNLESS you are willing to pay all the fees.
Well actually [Posted on 2004-03-04] I give this game a fair rating. Though you can download the game for free at jossh.com, buying this game is pretty optional if you want the 30 day free instead of the 10 day free trial for this game. Anyways, the problem with this game is that the graphics are way out dated and the developers refuses to up the sys specs to just make the graphics better, but the game play is excellent with its unique flight engine, especially when its challanging when it comes to hauling commodites. As for the playerbase for this game, sadly, theres not enough players for this game to go around so thats the reason I left jumpgate for a reason. Another reason is that the size of the universe is small. Plenty of useless ships in the game which are not PvP worthy. Plus, it would also take ungodly amount of your time to just practice PvP in the simulator. There is too much work, not enough play. It's like doing your 2nd chores. Dying in PvP is quite expensive as well. The only type of playerbase that is left are the hardcore players. The learning curve for this game is kind of hard compared to the other space games using arcade flight engine. If you are new to this game, and a fairly experienced pvper that wants to cause trouble only in the deregulated sectors or play a role as a pirate, I would recommend that you don't do it until this game gets a lot more players just because the whole player base would go after you. The last I would like to say is that at least they improved the light fighters to make it go faster than fighter class(which is level 26). I wish my luck to the developers to start putting this game into marketing soon.
