Usless with New VISTA Computers [Posted on 2008-07-21] I spent several hours attempting to get the video form my new Toshiba Laptop- new HP display along with the normal geek stuff- i.e. PDA phone, HP printer, Scanner, sound system - mouse and key board. In the end tossed the Expansion Dock in the heap of older out dated computer stuff- in the end used a powered seven USB hub and ended up with (4)plugs to laptop- 1. Power, 2. Video 3. Sound cable to HP display and 4. The USB Hub.
I feel the conflicts are a result of the Expansion Dock attempting to work with the new VISTA operating System. Just a paint to get the things to play together upon shut down to re- boot.
In the end a Toshiba laptop owner might have to wait for Toshiba to get its Tower Port System a little better engineered- from most reviews it has a way to go- I have not tried it - wasted far too much on hardware and some degree software that does not work as stated.
Not compatible with my external Monitor and bad Technical support [Posted on 2008-07-29] The basics work fine; keyboard, mouse, speakers
But I have not been able to get the dock to support my monitor. I installed the new drivers from the Kensington web site which seem to work termporarily. However, upon reboot my Dell XPS laptop (running Vista) does not recognize the VGA driver.
I called Kensington for support on this issue. I got the worse support I have received in my life. Support did nothing to diagnos the problem. They claimed it was a Microsoft or Dell issue and that I should call them.
So far so good! It works perfectly! [Posted on 2008-09-30] I have Dell Inspiron 1420 and used to use it on a desk without a stand. Then my upper back and neck started to hurt and decided I need a laptop stand. I got a Kensington adjustable stand with 4 usb expansion, but it didn't have the internet connection. So everyday, I had to plug in power cord, usb cord from the stand, audio plug, and the LAN cable. That's 4 cables. I decided that this stand is good as a laptop holder, but it's useless as a docking station. So I got this Expansion dock (at a famous auction site we all know) at a discounted price and I couldn't be happier.
I'm a music teacher who uses the laptop for MIDI sequencing and other audio needs, so I haven't used it for Video applications. As far as I'm concerned, this works perfectly. I had no problem installing the drivers which came with the dock.
Five Stars!
Docking [Posted on 2008-10-14] Product installed easily and worked very well. Met all expectations. Especially nice as Dell said there wasn't a docking solution for my computer that would do all things (video, audio, etc.).
Kensington 33367 Dock and Gateway MX8734 [Posted on 2008-10-19] I purchased the 33367 Dock for ease of travel from College to home. I have a Gateway 24 in Wide Screen at home, and the 8734 Laptop's 17in screen is 16:9. I striped my Laptop of Vista and I run XP Pro MCE 2005. I loaded the latest XP drivers (dock driver and separate nic driver) from the website. Plugged the single usb into the laptop and everything worked. I had a small issue with resolution compatibility between the two monitors, but settled on 1152x864. My only gripe is that running video through usb dock just won't handle any games. I have loaded ones such as Rollercoaster Tycoon 3, C&C Tiberium Wars and Trainz. None of which work. I guess you can't have everything. Over all ease of use is wonderful for travel!
