Probably Good Enough For Dilbert's Office Cubicle [Posted on 2008-07-31] I ordered these after a previous pair of Klipsch computer speakers went south on me, but am returning these and going with a pair of GigaWorks T40 Premiums instead because of one word: SUBWOOFER. I would unfavorably compare these new Klispch speakers to my old JBL Duet's -- which I still have on my secondary computer and which still work perfectly -- or rather, these Klipsch things aren't any better than the JBL Duet speakers, which cost half as much. I am sure the Klipsch speakers are louder, but what I am after is quality of sound: Like many today I use my computer as my primary music machine and need that subwoofer for the extra kick that makes the difference when Mike Rutherford starts laying into the bass pedals and stuff like that.
These are nice and crisp, clear, have a decent range of dynamics but no gripping kick of the bass range. Which probably makes them great for an office type setting where you want to watch JibJabb or stream Rush Limbaugh or whatever people do with speakers in an office (when I worked at an office once it actually consisted of work, there wasn't a lot of leisure time for listening to stuff) where the idea is to hear your entertainment clearly without necessarily rocking your cubicle neighbor out of their chair. My purpose is to simulate a kickass stereo in my home environment and admit that the subwoofer in the last Klipsch pair totally spoiled me. I am not sure what they think they were doing with the hollow "bass chamber" in the back of it other than providing people with a place to stash their weed, the attribute makes no sonic difference that I could sense even when adjusting their new dual control knob to kick up the lower range. It just didn't do anything for me.
But if you're just looking for desktop speakers for work these will probably be as good as any, which is why I am not really cheezed off about the whole affair. I am intelligent enough to know that they just aren't suitable for my own needs. Which by the way is exactly why I usually buy direct from Amazon and not a 2nd/3rd party seller: EASE OF RETURN and no money lost on shipping fees. They go to the post office tomorrow, the GigaWorks T40 Premiums will be here on Monday, and my life will continue with little or no inconvenience.
Amazing speakers for the price [Posted on 2008-08-21] I just got these speakers a couple of days back from Amazon and they are amazing. These actually sound like expensive stereo speakers, very rich and detailed. I have Bose companion 2 speakers too but Klipsch Groove sounds much better for the same price. This would be a newer design (sold from 2007) compared to Bose companions (2001).
Washed out sound [Posted on 2008-09-22] Maybe a got a bum pair of speakers, but these sounded terrible. Muddy underwater sound, mids totally washed out. I don't expect a lot from inexpensive computer desktop speakers but these were actively bad. For the same price the M-Audio StudioPro 3 sound a lot better to me.
Phenomenal [Posted on 2008-09-26] As a previous reviewer said, putting subwoofers in the back was really an excellent idea. They definitely have some kick to them and are comparable to many 2.1 sets. I actually had to turn the bass down quite a bit because it was too strong for me. However, if I'm ever in the mood for some intense bass, I'll know I have that option.
As far as aesthetics go, I bought these speakers because they look a lot more professional than the Creative ones. I was definitely not disappointed--they are an excellent complement on the sides of my laptop.
Impressed! [Posted on 2008-09-30] Nice speakers. For the price and the ease of set-up, these speakers cannot be better. I spend too much time in front of the computer and these speakers make that a much more enjoyable experience. No, they aren't as crisp and clear as my home audio system, but they are better than any portable audio system I've come across (for the price, especially).
