Don't buy from Lacie [Posted on 2008-04-25] Don't buy from Lacie. My device started randomly locking up. I sent it in for repair. Lacie sent it back and it started having the same issue. I sent in a new comment to their tech support. They replied stating the device was working fine. They never bother to check the error log, which shows it locking up. The product is worthless and their product support is even worse. Now I'm stuck with a product I have to unplug and plug back in everyday just to use.
Suits my needs. [Posted on 2008-05-05] I would recommend this usb drive to anyone in need of a network drive. Installation was simple, I didn't even have to use the cd or software, just plugged it in and it was ready to go. Configuring the drive was a breeze also. Its just like configuring a router. It gives you a lot of options as far as setting up an FTP server / Http server / Media Server etc., so that was nice. My only complaint is that it is not terribly fast via ethernet on a 100mb/s standard router. However, it can be connected to a gigabit network (1000mb/s), which I do not have, so I don't really know how fast it could be? Watch out when you connect it via its usb cable, the drive creates a new network connection and you have to access it through the network connection. Setting it up for ftp access was very simple, you can partition it easily, set it up for different users with different permissions, passwords, etc. Again, I am recommending this if you need it for the specific use of being a simple, network drive. If not, then get a regular usb / firewire drive.
Perfect storage solution [Posted on 2008-05-11] LaCie d2 Quadra 301110U 500 GB eSATA/FireWire800/FireWire400/USB 2.0 External Hard Drive
LaCie is the name to trust for external drive storage solutions. I have had several external hard drives for my graphic design business, and only LaCie has performed consistantly without trouble. It is easy to network to my system using an ethernet connection, and has incredible write and read speeds. Nothing is more aggravating than a slow write speed, or an external that crashes, which has happened to me with other brands. I would highly reccommend LaCie to anyone looking for a safe and fast electronic storage system.
Great for Home network [Posted on 2008-06-09] This is a hassle free gadget for home network - easy setup, easy operation, and barely any maintenance. The only thing I don't give it a five star is that there is no idle mode for the disk mini - potentially this will significantly reduce the product life and consume more power.
Good Product [Posted on 2008-06-26] My husband asked me to order this for him. He said he's pleased with it. It evidently is exactly what he wanted and works well. Since he has no complaints, I would recommend this item and manufacturer.
