Decent but very noisy [Posted on 2008-02-16] It works fine, but it doesn't spin down on idle and the loud fan cycles on and off several times per hour.
Just One Day..... [Posted on 2008-03-30] ....is all it too to break. I have never owned a LaCie Drive before. I picked this one up to replace my Western Digital My Book Premium 250 GB that has begun clicking. I formated and transferred all my data over and not long afterwards a red light came on. I have since tried to reformat, but my computer can't even access the drive to perform an operation on it. Additionally, during the few hours it was working, the fan spun up about every 3 minutes or so. I am not sure if that was because it was defective or if that as usual for these drives. Unfortunately there is not a lot of info available online about these drives so I can't be sure. I am returning it tomorrow. I will probably get another Western Digital. I can't speak to the usual reliability of these drives, but I probably won't get another after this.
DOA [Posted on 2008-06-20] I bought this drive through amazon and it came from J&R. I plugged it in and everything seemed fine, for about 5 minutes. Whenever I turn on and plug in this drive, after about 5 minutes the computer can no longer read or write to the drive and the red error light on the drive lights up. J&R said to call lacie. After waiting on hold for a couple of hours lacie said to send them the drive. I have sent the drive to lacie and am now waiting.
USB NIGHTMARE [Posted on 2008-07-16] NOT FOR MAC!
Yes I know it say's it is, but the stupid drive comes formatted with FAT32. Good luck trying to get it formatted in Mac OS and mounted. Mac users should not be buying USB, we have natural firewire which is never a problem. Every USB drive I own is flakey; will not sleep, and unreliable. You put the Mac to sleep, the USB turns it back on, gotta love that feature. I have about 10 Firewire drives which never cause a hitch.
One question for Apple is WHY ARE YOU PUTTING LESS FIREWIRE PORTS AND MORE USB?
Sometimes the companies work against us.
Don't buy this unless you want headaches. it's a Windoze drive without the usual dip switches.
